What is Extraction and its example, How extraction process performed

WHAT IS EXTRACTION? HOW PROCESS OF Extraction IS PERFORMED?

Introduction of Extraction: -

Extraction is the process of separating a compound of interest from a mixture using a Solvent. The solvent is chosen because it is more soluble to the compound of interest than to the other components of the mixture. The mixture is then stirred or shaken with the solvent, and the compound of interest is extracted into the solvent. The solvent is then separated from the mixture, and the compound of interest is recovered.

Here are some examples of extraction:

·         Oil extraction: Oil is extracted from plants, such as olives, soybeans, and corn, using a solvent such as hexane. The solvent is heated, and the oil is extracted into the solvent. The solvent is then separated from the oil, and the oil is recovered.

·         Coffee extraction: Coffee is extracted from coffee beans using hot water. The hot water dissolves the caffeine and other compounds in the coffee beans, and the coffee is extracted into the water. The water is then separated from the coffee, and the coffee is ready to be enjoyed.

·         DNA extraction: DNA is extracted from cells using a solvent such as chloroform or phenol. The solvent disrupts the cell membranes, and the DNA is extracted into the solvent. The solvent is then separated from the DNA, and the DNA is purified.

·         Tooth extraction: A tooth is extracted from the gum using forceps. The dentist will numb the area around the tooth with a local anesthetic first. Then, the dentist will use the forceps to loosen the tooth and remove it from the gum.

Extraction is a versatile technique that is used in many different industries, including food, pharmaceutical, and chemical. It is a valuable tool for isolating and purifying compounds of interest.
