Introduction
Ademola Adeleke has been sacked as Governor of Osun state by an Election Petition Tribunal chaired by Justice Tertse Kume and its been turmoil in the state as to who is the true Governor
The Tribune
The tribunal sacked Adeleke following claims of overvoting in some polling units across the State.
In the majority judgment issued by two judges against one, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ordered that the Certificate of Return issued to Adeleke be withdrawn and issued to Adegboyega Oyetola.
Brief history
Ademola Adeleke was a former Senator for Osun West in Nigeria, and he ran for the office of the Governor of Osun state in the 2018 election as the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The election was conducted on September 22, 2018, and the results were announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner with a slim margin of votes.
Adeleke and his party, PDP, challenged the results of the election at the Election Petitions Tribunal and the Osun state governorship election petition tribunal upheld the victory of Gboyega Oyetola as the Governor of Osun state.

Adeleke’s legal team had argued that Oyetola, who was then the Chief of Staff to the then Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, did not meet the constitutional requirement of having at least 25 years of experience as a member of a profession in order to contest for the position of governor. They also claimed there were irregularities, malpractices, and manipulation of the election.
However, the tribunal has once again dismissed these claims and upheld the victory of Gboyega Oyetola as the Governor of Osun state.

The legal battle for the Osun state governorship has been closely watched by the public as well as political analysts.
It also highlighted the importance of the role of the judiciary in resolving disputes arising from elections in Nigeria.

They are the two major political parties in the country and Ademola Adeleke, a former senator, contested the election as the candidate of the PDP while Gboyega Oyetola, who was then the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, contested as the candidate of the APC.
