FEBRUARY 1973
The Vinelander.
Gracing the Cover of the February 1973 Victorian Railways Newsletter was the State's newest train. Introduced only six months earlier, and with a Motorail service for holidaymakers to take their cars, The Vinelander is photographed nearing Redcliffs on the way to its destination of Mildura.
The grape vines growing in the foreground leant the train its name, and when the train ceased running in September 1993, Victoria lost the only overnight sleeping train to ever operate wholly within the State. Still, this bit of early 70's charm earns this cover a place at Number 94 on my list of greatest ever Victorian Railways Newsletter covers.
