Are you struggling to make the most of your small bedroom? Whether you’re dealing with limited square footage or a tight budget, there are many ways to create a functional and stylish home. With the right approach, a small bedroom can be transformed into a haven of organization and style.

Today, I’d love to share ways you can makeover a small bedroom. This will make your life easier and hopefully give you some inspiration!

How to Organize your Small Bedroom

Build Narrow Custom Storage

Even if you don’t have a closet, organizing and maintaining the appearance of your cloth collection can be accomplished with the help of custom Wall built-ins that conceal everything behind closed doors. These built-ins are ideal for small bedrooms because they take up less room than conventional dressers and armoires.

Squeeze In a Desk

Placing the bed next to the window can be a great solution for a small bedroom with limited wall space. Do well to use this area without hesitation.

Paint Exposed Materials White

In a tiny but ideal NYC bedroom, designer Shawn Henderson covered up a decorative fireplace so that a headboard would be centered on the wall. The exposed brick wall was then painted white to blend in and make it appear lighter.

Opt for High-Contrast Colors

A “jewel box” effect can be achieved with a red nailhead bed frame by adding vibrant patterns and accents. It can be dressed up with vibrant contrasting colors and decor or downplayed with timeless neutral tones for a more restrained appearance.

Use All Available Surface Space

Maximize your storage space in a small bedroom by being resourceful and utilizing every inch of space. Even a windowsill can provide extra storage for essentials such as decor, lighting, and other items when there’s limited room for a traditional table or dresser.

Keep in mind that one of the biggest challenges in a small bedroom is finding places to put your belongings, especially when the bed takes up the majority of the room.

Install Sconces

J. P. Horton’s small bedroom design demonstrates how to maximize small spaces. Wall-mounted sconces save space, and a versatile side chair can be used as a bedside table when necessary.

Use a Day Bed

Using a daybed can make the most of your limited space by doubling the size of your bedroom and converting it into a flexible guest room, multipurpose family room, or home office.

Learn a Mirror

Transform your bedroom into a moody oasis with plush velvet seating, dark wood-paneled walls, and classic landscape photos. Make the room feel larger by putting a modern mirror against the wall for a sleek and beautiful look.

Ditch the Headboard

In a small bedroom, having fewer items can create a stronger sense of personal style and a sense of ease, particularly when paired with polished materials and a cohesive look.

Embrace Coziness With Dark Wallpaper

You can always use an inky grasscloth wallpaper to create a cozy bedroom with a small size. While dark paint colors can also achieve a similar effect, the textured wallpaper adds an extra layer of depth and interest.

Customize

Create a personalized touch to your bedroom decor by adding monograms to your bedding, coordinating your lampshades with your headboard, and experimenting with bold curtains and throw blankets for a fun and balanced look.

Combine Dresser and Nightstands

I have always wanted to create a bedroom full of personality. You can combine dressers and nightstands; it makes the form shine with character.

A Storage Corner

I am impressed with how one can cleverly utilize various storage hacks to maximize the use of space in the corners of a room, resulting in an organized and neat appearance.

This is a prime example of how to efficiently utilize corner spaces, by incorporating corner shelving, a rack for hanging clothes, and storage boxes. The combination of these elements is not only elegant but also highly practical.

DIY Mirror and Jewelry Box

Are you tired of cluttered jewelry and accessories taking over your room? Look no further! Introduce some organization to your room with this two-in-one mirror and jewelry box. Not only will it maximize your wall space, but it’s also so ingeniously designed, you’ll be tempted to replicate it yourself.

Imagine having a full-sized mirror mounted on your wall with a hidden shelf behind it, perfectly designed for storing all your jewelry and accessories. Not only is it practical, but it’s also a stylish way to keep your items organized. Plus, you’ll have the added convenience of being able to check how your jewelry matches your outfit all in one spot.

Rolling Carts Are Your Best Friend

If you’re working with a limited amount of space, having furniture that can move around easily is a game-changer. That way, you can easily create an extra room whenever you need it.

That’s why I highly recommend having at least one rolling storage cart in your small bedroom.

There are so many options available on the market, but my personal favorite is one that comes in an industrial wooden design. It complements minimalist decor nicely and comes with built-in brakes for added safety. Trust me, it’s a must-have for any small space.

Floor to Ceiling Closet

Are you tired of feeling cramped and cluttered in your small bedroom? Say goodbye to cramped walk-in closets and hello to a floor-to-ceiling storage solution! Not only will it save space, but it’s also a stylish way to organize your clothes. By color-coding your wardrobe, you’ll not only have an easy time finding what you’re looking for but it’ll also add a decorative touch to your room.

To complete the look, add some minimalist decorative storage boxes and open shelving. Not only does this give the illusion of a larger space, but it also keeps you accountable for keeping your clothes neatly folded and organized.

Hanging Storage Organizers

Maximize the space in your cabinets by using hanging storage organizers. Not only do they add extra Shelves, but they also have side pockets for small accessories like purses, belts, and ties.

Make your closet look nice by pairing this gray hanging organizer with a similarly-colored storage bin. The transparent side allows you to easily see what’s inside.

If you prefer a more traditional look, you can go for a storage box but add labels on the front so you know what’s inside each bin. With these solutions, you can easily keep your room organized and clutter-free!

Pull-Out Bedside Shelf

Transform your bedside tabletop into a clutter-free zone by installing pull-out shelves to keep your gadgets organized and charging.

Behind-the-Mirror Clothes Hanger

This is a brilliant idea for you to use the space behind your mirror. I got this idea for my room from Ikea. Apart from your clothes, you can also use the rack to hold your bags, umbrella and so many other things.

Wall-Mounted Jewelry Organizer

Are you tired of your jewelry becoming tangled and disorganized? Why not try creating your own unique and artistic jewelry organizer from scrap wood?

You can stick a corkboard on one of the picture panels to hold earrings and install screw hooks like these at the bottom of the frame to hold longer necklaces. Let’s make jewelry organization a breeze!

Floating Cube Shelves

Are you looking for a way to maximize your small bedroom space?

A trend that’s gaining popularity is using your wall space for storage. One creative way to do this is by mounting wooden cubes on your wall. Not only will this add extra storage, but you can also add a touch of character by mixing different cube sizes, just like in this photo.

You can use raw wood materials to make your own cubes or purchase pre-fabricated ones like these. No matter what method you choose, make sure they are securely mounted to the wall with screws. If you’re renting or don’t want to damage your walls, consider using heavy-duty Commando strips, available right here.

So, be creative and make the most of your small bedroom space with this unique storage solution!

Tension Rod Shoe Rack

In small rooms, storing shoes can be challenging. However, there are ways to add additional shoe storage with materials found around the house, such as tension rods used for hanging curtains.

The secret is to locate a nook in your bedroom where you can hang your shoes and anchor the rods. The best thing about tension rods is that they stay securely in place without the need for drilling holes, nails, or other fasteners.

Above-Door Floating Shelf

Are you running out of storage space in your small bedroom? Don’t overlook the area above your door! This underutilized space can be transformed into a handy storage solution, perfect for small bedrooms. Get creative with any wooden slab around the house and paint it to match your bedroom door. Or, if you’re looking for something easy, you can also buy inexpensive floating shelves that can be installed without any tools.

Don’t let your small bedroom limit your storage options, make the most of the space you have with this simple and practical project.

Under-Bed Linen Storage

Your bed is a great place to store shoes as well. We frequently disregard beds that are low to the ground as mere storage areas.

What we don’t know is that you can store at least 14 pairs of shoes on a double bed. You can make your own pull-out shoe storage by painting some plywood or wood panels to serve as the base of the unit.

DIY Storage Daybed

Small bedrooms often come with the added challenge of finding enough storage space for bulky linens. But don’t let this problem stress you out, there’s a simple solution that won’t take up too much space! Consider investing in storage bins specifically designed to fit under your bed.

Not only are they the perfect width to hold your linens, but they come in a variety of styles, from wicker baskets to simple polyester designs.

Floating Makeup Dresser

You don’t have to sacrifice style for space when it comes to your makeup dresser. Instead of a bulky desk or vanity table, consider a wall-mounted option.

By using a combination of floating shelves and wall-mounted drawers, mirrors, and lighting, you can create a functional and space-saving makeup dresser that will fit perfectly in any room. Say goodbye to cluttered floors and hello to a sleek and organized space.

Customize Your Headboard

When it comes to organizing a small bedroom, it’s important to think outside the box and explore every nook and cranny for potential storage space. One area that is often overlooked is the headboard of the bed. But with a little creativity and some DIY skills, you can turn this empty space into a versatile and practical storage solution.

Install Inventive Storage

Installing inventive storage in your headboard can be a great way to add functionality and organization to a small bedroom. To add storage to your headboard, consider incorporating shelves, hooks, and drawers into the design. This will provide a spot for storing items like books, picture frames, and jewelry.

Hooks can be used for hanging bags, scarves, or clothes, while drawers can be used to store bedding or clothes. By using the headboard space for storage, you can maximize the space in your bedroom and keep it organized and clutter-free.

Make a Fake Canopy

Creating the illusion of a canopy above your bed can add a sense of drama and elegance to your small bedroom. This can be achieved by attaching sheer fabric or curtains to the wall above your headboard.

This not only adds a decorative touch but also creates a spot to hang clothes, scarves, or bags.

The fabric or curtains can be hung using a rod or a simple string and hooks. It can be a simple DIY project that you can do with minimal cost, while it can also increase the space of your bedroom by making use of the area above the bed.

Combine Dresser and Nightstands

I have always loved having a room full of personalities. with no room for both a dresser and a nightstand. You can combine both to reserve space in your small bedroom.

Plastic Boxes with Labels for Wardrobe

Are you tired of feeling like your closet is cluttered and disorganized? One easy solution I recommend is to utilize the vertical space inside your closet. As you can see in the image above, there’s a lot of empty space that can be used for storage, such as under shirts and sweaters.

To make the most of this space, I use plastic storage boxes and attach my own labels to them. This way, it’s easy to pull out a box quickly, grab what I need, and put it back. Plus, the labels make it easy to know exactly what’s inside each box without any confusion.

The great thing about these labels is that they’re easy to make. You can simply print them out and attach them with a glue stick. No need for special printable sticker paper. And, you can use them on any type of storage container, such as baskets or fabric boxes. So, get creative and start maximizing the vertical space in your closet today!

Book Shelves Over the Bed

Sometimes, we forget to use the vertical space above the bed. And that’s a big mistake!

Do you have a collection of books, you can put multiple bookshelves just above your bed to keep all your books.

My Favorites:

  • Rustic Wood Wall Floating Shelves
  • Industrial Pipe Bookcase Wall Shelf
  • White Floating Shelves
  • Wallniture U Shape Metal Bookshelf

If you’re struggling to find space for your overflowing book collection, consider creating your own under-bed book organizer. This is a great option if you have unused space underneath your bed.

Turn Your Wall Shelving Unit into a Wardrobe

I was immediately drawn to this clever solution for small bedrooms, utilizing wall shelving as a wardrobe. You can hang all your clothes, such as sweaters, dresses, and jackets, above the doors, using ladders to access them.

Although this idea may not be suitable for those with a fear of heights, if you’re comfortable climbing a ladder, it’s worth giving it a try in your own home.

Corner Shelving Unit for Shoes

Are you looking for a practical and stylish way you can organize your shoes? Consider installing floating shelves in the corner of your room. You can stack the shelves up and use them to store your shoes.

Not only will this keep your shoes organized, but it will also add a touch of elegance to your space while keeping it tidy and neat. Give it a try and see the difference it makes in your room organization.

Wall Hooks for Everything Important

We often forget to use vertical space in our room. The truth is you can easily get everything neatly organized with wall hooks.

Get a few sturdy wall hooks, attach them to the walls and hang your bags, instruments or even accessories on them.

Use a Pegboard to Get Accessories Organized

Keep your bedroom accessories organized and on display with this creative idea: Utilize the vertical space on your wall. A pegboard is not only a stylish addition to your bedroom decor but also provides a functional way to organize your accessories.

You can put this space-saving solution into your bedroom design for a cute and clutter-free space

Rod Under the Shelves for Hanging Clothes

Add a rod under your shelving units to hang clothes and use more of the vertical space. This way you can keep your clothes organized without losing space for other items on the shelves.

Use Storage Boxes on Shelves Too

Add storage boxes to your shelves to create more space in your small bedroom. Use them to store small items like accessories, clothes, and school supplies.

Fabric cubes with compartments also work great for added organization. This is an easy solution for increasing storage in your room

Rustic Jewelry Organizer

A small wall organizer can be both practical and stylish. It makes it easy to pick out accessories before going out and adds a nice design touch to the room. Give it a try!

Your Own Clothing Rack

A clothing rack is a great option for small bedrooms without a wardrobe. It allows for more storage not just for clothes but also for accessories like storage boxes.

Get creative and use the rack to maximize storage space while keeping it neat and organized.

Hanging Organizer

A fabric door organizer is a simple and cheap way to add extra storage to your small bedroom. It can be used to store lighter items like books, notepads, and makeup products.

Door Utility Rack

Get a door utility rack to organize your accessories and self-care products. It’s a great way to add storage space and it looks good too! Don’t forget to use your doors for storage.

Use Towel Rods to Hang Shoes

If you have a lot of shoes and no space to store them, try using double towel bars to stack and organize them. This not only saves space but also allows you to easily see all your options before heading out.

Closet Drawers for Organizing Clothes

These closet drawers are quite cheap and can help you organize all of your underwear, socks, shirts, and accessories. All of this is made very simple by the organizer.

It doesn’t take up much space and isn’t very tall, so it fits easily under hanging clothes or shelves. They also look great, especially since keeping them organized is so simple.

The compartments are the key here!
