Nat Youth Games: Tinubu urges govs to support sports administrators

President Bola Tinubu has urged state governors to give sports administrators the support to discover and develop talents for national and international competitions.

He made the call on Saturday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State, while declaring open the 7th edition of the National Youth Games.

Represented by the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, Tinubu said the future of sports in the country depends on the youths.

The President also said his administration was ready to improve and develop sports.

“Governors should partner with sports administrators for sports improvement. The governors should give them free hands to discover talents for the growth of the youths and the nation at large. It will also lead to the discovery of talent that can represent the country at international levels,” he stated.

Earlier, Delta State governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, said sports has had a positive impact on the country’s development.

“Sports played good roles in contributing to the empowerment of women, youths and the world at large. It brings energy, help to harness power to build the society to be conducive for good living (sic),” he said.

President, Athletics Federation of Nigeria, (AFN), and Chairman, Local Organizing Committee, (LOC), Tonitok Okowa, in his remarks said Delta State is excited to host the Games.

He expressed hopes that new talents would be discovered during the tournament.
