Yobe Assembly holds public hearing on bills for establishment of Hisbah Commission, YITDA

The Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, has assured that the lawmakers will pass bills for the establishment of the Hisbah Commission and the Yobe State Information Technology Development Agency, YITDA.

The Speaker gave the assurance in an address at the opening session of a one-day public hearing on the bills at the assembly complex in Damaturu, on Thursday.

He said the establishment of the Hisbah Commission will ensure full implementation of the Sharia Law which was passed by the House in 2000.

Mashio also noted that the bill for the establishment of the Information Technology Development Agency came at the right time considering the modern global technology system.

“The Agency will enable government to train more youths on computer skills and other modern technologies for self reliance”, Mashio said.

He commended the House committees on Information and Justice, Judiciary and Religious Affairs for organising the public hearing, adding that it was part of the legislative procedure before a bill is passed into law.

In his address, the Chairman of the House Committee on Justice, Judiciary and Religious Affairs, Hon. Yakubu Suleiman, assured that the committees will study all recommendations presented at the public hearing for consideration.

Organisations that presented memos at the public hearing include Ministry of Information, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Yobe Islamic Centre, Yobe Muslim Umma Forum, Nigerian Security Civil Defence Corps and Nigeria Bar Association.

Several civil society organisations also made presentations.
