Tension in Bayelsa community after double murder over N50

A Rider of a commercial tricycle (popularly known as Keke NAPEP) who stabbed a youth to death was lynched on Wednesday evening in Yenizue-Epie community of Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.

The youth, identified as Douglas Joseph, 30, was a native of the community and a father of three.

One of the witnesses who spoke with DAILY POST said they were outside, by Saptex junction, in Yenizue-Epie, when they noticed the argument between the Keke Rider and Joseph.
He said: “He said he was coming from Opolo community to Kpansia which was supposed to be N100, but the Keke rider insisted on collecting N150.

“As we were separating them, we saw the Keke rider bring out a dagger. We thought it was just to scare the youth. But he stabbed him on his lap and the young man fell to the ground. People prevented the Keke rider from running away. Unfortunately, his wounded victim died. Following his death, the Keke rider was lynched by a mob that hit him with different objects.”

Reacting to the incident, the Bayelsa State Police Command, said it has deployed its Anti Riot Squad to restore normalcy at Kpansia and its environs over the unfortunate murder of a community youth by a tricycle rider.
