The Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, Faculty of Education and Extension Services (UDUS FEES) is set to change the Teaching Practice (TP) scheduled date to abide by the National University Commission (NUC) and the university directives to shut down school from Wednesday, February 22, 2023, till Tuesday, March 14, 2023.

Earlier, on Monday, February 13, 2023, the UDUS management through the Dean of Student Affairs announced the closing of the university for the 2020/2021 academic session and directed all students to vacate the campus. The circular reads thus: “All students including those writing Projects or undergoing Industrial Training (IT) and Teaching Practices (TP) are by this circular, directed to vacate the campus including the private hall of residences within the perimeter or vicinity of the university on or before Wednesday, February 22, 2023.”

Notwithstanding, on Friday, February 17, 2023, the Faculty of Education and Extension Services (FEES) through a circular, announced that the scheduled date for her 300-level and 400-level students’ Teaching Practice is from Monday, February 27, 2023, to April 07, 2023. This confused the concerned education students on who to follow between NUC and their faculty.

In engagement with the faculty's former TP coordinator, Dr S.Y Tsagem on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, he said, “The federal government supersedes the university while the university supersedes the faculty, so the faculty has to obey the university directive. The TP will be postponed so far the order implies to close down school activities till Tuesday, March 14, 2023.”

Dr Tsagem also advised the students to vacate the hostel as stated in the memo released by the university and go to their various towns.

Dr Abbas Mahmud, the FEES TP Chairman, who doubles as the staff adviser for the Adult and Primary Education Students’ Association (APESA) affirmed the faculty's decision to change the TP scheduled date. “A circular about the new date will be released today or tomorrow, you should be expecting it,” he said.

“All students that are going for the Teaching Practice (TP) 2022/2023 academic session should hold on for the printing of posting letters. The Faculty will communicate to you as appropriate on the new date and printing of new posting letters,” he added
