HOD’S CUP: Festard Nets Brace As Emeralds F.C Shames Wasteful Sapphires F.C in Final

Although it was a game of limited chances for the Emeralds, yet they were able to convert those chances to force tears out of the wasteful players of the Sapphires

Retaining titles is not for everyone, it is for only champions.  Just like Real Madrid, the football team of the Linguistics part 3, Emeralds F.C has shown superiority again as they defeated their Part two counterpart, Sapphires F.C (3-1) to retain the HOD’s Cup Title.

 The match which took place on 18th, November 2022 at the Main Bowl, Obafemi Awolowo University was a delight to watch as spectators stayed glued to catch every moment.

Fourteen minutes into the first half, Festus Opened the score line with a well-placed penalty that sent Sapphire’s Goal Keeper into confusion. Not less than twenty-six minutes after, Daniel netted the second goal assisted by Festus.


 

In the initial minutes of the second half, one would think that the Sapphires team would break the jinx as their spirit got elevated after Alphonso Davies returned a goal to make it 2:1. However, their celebration was cut short after Festus netted again living their hope dangling in the sky.

Obisanya Festus Adeolu was the man of the moment as he clinched three awards. He won the Man of the match Award, the Top Scorer Award, and the Most Valuable Player award. Yusuf Abayomi Ismail won the best coach, Afolabi Hammed Timileyin won the Best Goalkeeper and Oke Daniel A. won the fair Play Award.


 

In his remark after the match, Dr. Bamigbade who represented the Head of the Department appreciated the administration for a well-organized competition. He further showered accolades on the students for their commitment despite the rigorousness of the semester.  

While expressing his excitement, Yusuf Abayomi, Ismail the coach of the Emerald said: “I am very happy, not because of the winning alone but the commitment of my players. They worked for it; they deserve it.

Also, in attendance were, one of the department’s lecturers; Mr. Olodude, the Vice-President; Adesola Esther, the General Secretary; Adeyeye Mojeed, The Editor-in-Chief of Kowee News Agency, Ajayi Lucky, Hon. Olukotun Bunmi, Hon Zulaika among others.
