Where to Watch

Ningen Fushin is available to stream on Crunchyroll.

Episode 1 Review

The story revolves around Nick. Nick had everything he ever wanted. A good party of swashbucklers and a girlfriend. One day, he was fired from his party and his girlfriend left him. Next thing he knew, he was an idol otaku. That’s the first minute of the episode. Epic.

Following, the intro song is kind of average. It’s nothing to scoff at, but also nothing to get overly excited by.

First off, why does this play in a world of fantasy, adventurers and guilds and then there are idols with microphones. It feels like some sort of modern-times and fantasy mish-mash. Never mind that, however, as immediately, it seems like the whole main cast is conglomerating in the first episode already. Brave move instead of introducing one character after another.

Nick, who became overly cynical in a matter of days, is joined by 3 other adventurers. A mage (??) with rich clothing, a drunken and excommunicated cleric and a red-haired dragon-tailed warrior share Nicks table.

With all of them in a negative mood, what’s better than to celebrate cynicism together? And that’s exactly what they do. They down a pint of beer and exclaim in unison “You just can’t trust anyone!*

That’s when the best party ever was formed.

Backstory time!

The mage’s backstory is then shown. Her name is Tiana. An overachiever who is engaged to a fellow student of magic: Alex. However, Tiana meets Alex who calls off the engagement because he is envious of her talent. Following that shock, Tiana left the magic academy, looking for work around town. She then started gambling. And now she’s as cynical as Nick.

Next up, it’s the clerics turn. Going by the name Zem, he turned down a teenage girl who fell in love with him. The girl then, out of spite for Zem, acted like he did unspeakable things to her. He was then excommunicated and imprisoned. Next thing we know, he jumped into bed with a tavern keep, “healing” her. She then told him to become an adventurer, even giving him some cleric adventurers clothing and weapon.

Last but not least, the draconian woman. She was stolen from. And apparently she’s a drunkard.

The next morning, after having drunk too much, Nick does the protagonist speech, hoping to form a party with the others officially.

Confusion

The backstory is pure confusion. How, what, I don’t understand it. But it makes for an exciting premise, somehow.
