Amazon has acquired the global rights to Warhammer 40,000, according to a report by Deadline. The company plans to produce TV shows and films based on the popular miniature wargame, with Henry Cavill set to star in and executive produce the franchise. Games Workshop, the manufacturer behind the game, has reportedly "reached an agreement in principle" with Amazon, granting the company the rights to develop films, TV series, and potentially even games and animation based on the IP, as well as associated merchandising rights. It is not yet clear if the partnership between Amazon and Games Workshop has been finalized. The projects are expected to be available on Amazon's streaming service, Prime Video, in the coming years.

Based on the beloved game that's been around since 1987, Warhammer 40,000 is set in a richly imagined future world filled with humans, alien races, and gods. According to Deadline, production company Vertigo Entertainment teamed up with actor Henry Cavill (who once posted a photo of himself painting a Warhammer miniature during the pandemic lockdowns) to secure the rights to the IP and bring it to Amazon. Cavill recently left The Witcher, where he played Geralt of Rivia, and was previously set to play Superman in future DC films, but was ultimately dropped after the new co-chairman of DC Studios, James Gunn, decided to write a movie for a younger Man of Steel. Don't miss out on this epic adaptation coming soon to Amazon Prime Video!
