THE DARK STORIES OF MY PAST - CHAPTER 5

A few seconds later, I heard a knock on our door. It was Sophia. My Elder Sister went to open and ushered her in. The house was full now. All the members of my small family were present. I was still at the balcony when my elder sister called to announce Sophia's presence. I went to say hi. She brought a bottle of champagne and handed to me. I was very happy and thanked her.

Now, Marion my girlfriend from Kumba had noticed Melanie and wasn't happy. She walked up to me and this conversation followed.

..."Who's she?" She asked. "Why is she behaving so confident?"

"She's Melanie." I answered. "I guess I told you about her."

"Of course you did, but you still haven't told me who she is to you." She queried.

"We are good friends." I lied

"I don't believe, she doesn't sound like a normal friend." She was getting really annoyed now.

"Please baby, you have to believe me." I countered.

"Ok tell her to leave immediately." She ordered.

"I can't." I said firmly. "This is my graduation ceremony . Please don't spoil it." I pleaded.

" I will tell her to leave myself if you can't." She said and moved towards her.

I pulled her back and almost went on my knees trying to stop her. She gave me a slap that made me see stars and headed straight to my mum to report. It took me about 5 minutes to regain my eyesight. I followed her but it was too late. Se had already told my mum.

My mum half dragged me into my bedroom and scolded me. I told her to understand. I told her I can't ask Melanie to leave. I told her I will explain everything to her tomorrow. She reluctantly let me go. As son as I left the room and got to the corridor, you won't believe what I saw. Marion and Melanie were doing a Mexican standoff. I ran into the palour and joined the other people feasting. When I went back into the corridor and realized Marion was no longer there. She had gone back to her sister's place.

Melanie came up to me and gave me her own slap. She got her crew and disappeared. However, she had the presence of mind not to tell them what happened. The rest of the party people were oblivious about what was going on, but realized I was very nervous.

Marion and Melanie had gone. Sophia and Noel were still around. Noel was a francophone and didn't care who was at the party and who was not. She handed her gift, refused to eat or drink and told me she will be leaving. She had to go to Douala that night. I took her to the main road where she got a cab and went to Mile 17. Sophia was the only one left. She stayed even after everyone had gone. I finally let her go because she had other parties to attend.

I was left alone and now had to look for a means to appease Marion and Melanie. I was downstairs, after escaping from my mum who was looking for me for questioning. I pulled my phone from my pocket, dialed Marion's number and she refused to pick. I called Melanie, she had witched off my phone. My phone rang, I checked and it was my mum. I ended the called.

I was on my way back home when I bumped into two big ladies. It was Marion's younger cousin Pokora and her friend. They had come for Melanie and looked ready to fight. These two ladies were tall. Both slightly taller than me. They looked angry and demanded that I lead them to Melanie immediately.

I told them she had left. They asked me to give her number. Giving her number to them would have been as easy as walking into church, but I didn't I didn't want any further escalation. They told me I have two choices, give them her number or take them to her house. As straight as an eagle would fly, it would't have taken me up to 5 minutes to get to her house, but I refused. I turned to leave but hey stood their ground and held me, then I saw my mum coming towards our direction and I knew I was in double trouble now.
