Plane from Westchester crashes into power lines in Maryland

Two people were saved early on Monday morning after a small Plane from Westchester crashed into power lines in Maryland. The plane was carrying two people.


After taking off from Westchester County Airport in White Plains, the aircraft came down in Gaithersburg just before 6 p.m. on Sunday. Both the 65-year-old pilot and the 66-year-old passenger sustained serious injuries but are expected to survive.
In a power line tower, the plane was hundreds of feet in the air.

8n Montgomery County, the accident caused widespread outages.


“Some power lines must be reconnected, which will probably take a few days, I imagine.

There was a harm there to the pinnacle that will require two or three days on the off chance that not a long time, and obviously we need to get the plane down,” said Pete Piringer, boss representative for Montgomery Region Fire and Salvage.


Until the plane was secured and they were certain that power had been cut off to the tower, crews were unable to save the pilot and passenger.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known.The FAA and NTSB are looking into it.
