Qualcomm is holding its annual Snapdragon Summit today at Maui, Hawaii today. While the summit will go on till the 26th, the mobile chip manufacturer is expected to announce its next-generation Snapdragon chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, on the very first day.
However, it looks like the beans have already been spilled, revealing the complete specs of the flagship mobile processor and its new AI features.
It seems the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is AI-focused
The leak comes from the folks over at the MSPoweruser, who have managed to get their hands on the marketing materials for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Based on the leak, the next-gen mobile processor will feature a plethora of AI tools, enabling users to perform actions like expanding photos, removing objects from videos, generating AI backgrounds, etc.
In addition, the new chipset is also capable of running AI models such as Stable Diffusion and Meta’s Llama 2.
Looks like even Qualcomm is also focusing on AI this year, which is not unprecedented as the entire industry is focused on AI this year.
However, according to the marketing materials, Qualcomm’s new chip comes with an upgraded Hexagon neural processor (NPU), which is 98% faster and 40% more efficient compared to last year’s Gen 2, but the document doesn’t specify it.
While all seem AI-focused, Qualcomm has also improved gaming-related features, including an improved light reflection system, allowing global illumination with ray tracing, the ability to game at 240 FPS, and upscaling for up to 8K resolution.
Additionally, after the launch, Qualcomm’s new flagship will feature on the Samsung Galaxy S24, which would be one of the first smartphones to feature the new chipset and is expected to be launched in Q1 2024.
