Price hike likely for Google Pixel 8, suggests notorious leaker

Google has recently launched two new Pixel devices: The Google Pixel Fold – marking the company’s debut in foldable smartphones, and the Google Pixel 7a, a premium mid-range smartphone that is part of the Pixel 7 series.

However, Google surprised many by launching the Pixel 7a at an increased price tag of $499. While a $50 hike might be acceptable to some, it raises questions about what we can expect from the pricing of the upcoming Google Pixel 8 series.

Indian website, Smartprix, has already shared major leaks regarding Google Pixel 8, including unofficial renders. Now tipster Yogesh Brar provides us with another piece of this puzzle – speculations on Google Pixel 8’s price.

Renowned leaker Yogesh Brar recently tweeted about potential pricing for the Google Pixel 8. According to his information, we can expect a price tag of either $649 or $999 for the standard variant.

This contrasts with last year’s Google Pixel 7, which was launched at a $599 price tag. Therefore, we might see at least a $50 price increase. While this wouldn’t be completely unexpected, given recent trends, it could still disappoint some fans.

Tech giants like Samsung and Apple have both increased prices for their top-end smartphones but chose not to pass this global inflation onto US customers.

Even Google raised the price of its budget smartphone – The Google Pixel 7a now costs $50 more than its predecessor, Google Pixel 6a.

Google Pixel 8 expected specs

Brar also shared potential specs for the Google Pixel 8. According to his posts, we can expect a device featuring a 6.17-inch OLED FHD+ panel with a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

The System on Chip (SoC) will reportedly be the next-generation Google Tensor G3, paired with an 8GB memory and options for either 128GB or 256GB internal storage.

The dual camera module on the back is said to consist of a 50MP (GN2) main lens with OIS and a secondary 12MP ultrawide camera, along with an 11MP selfie camera on the front.

Powering all these features would be a sizable battery at 4,485 mAh capacity offering wired charging speeds of up to 24W and reaching as high as 12W for Qi standard devices – though proprietary wireless charging could potentially offer even higher speeds.

Nonetheless, with Pixel 7a price hikes, global inflation, and counting upgrades like the new 50MP sensor and the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, Google is sure within its rights to increase the price. But we hope that the company keeps it to a minimum.

It’s still early days, and there isn’t a lot of concrete data available yet as it’s still in the realm of rumors and speculations. However, we can create a table with speculated features and expected changes based on these sources:
