If you're looking to earn a lot this upcoming holiday season, why not sell DIY Christmas crafts that you can market as "stocking stuffers?"
What are Stocking Stuffers?
As the name implies, a stocking stuffer is a small gift used to fill a Christmas stocking. Traditionally, stocking stuffers aren't substantial presents; they're small trinkets given primarily to amuse the recipients.
Can Stocking Stuffers be Practical?
Stocking stuffers can be both decorative AND practical, or useful. We at Careers in Crafts strongly encourage those in the industry of selling handmade items to develop a separate line of products that they can brand as "stocking stuffers."
Here's a list of excellent ideas for DIY stocking stuffers:
(1.) Snow globes

Snow globes are decorative and easy to make. You can sell them individually, or offer them by pair or sets of 3 or more.
Materials for snow globes like small figurines, pine trees, seashells, beads, and styrofoam are available in craft or hobby stores.
You can make attractive snow globes in different sizes by using cheap mason jars, or recycling empty jars of mayonnaise, fruit preserves, or pickle relish.
(2.) Scrunchies

The good thing about scrunchies is you can use cloth in plain, solid colors, or you can go wild and sew fabric with crazy or outrageous prints or patterns.
And to justify an increase in your markup price, you can hand sew colorful beads, faux pearls or rhinestones onto your scrunchies to make them look prettier.
(3.) Purse
This is the perfect project for enthusiasts of needlework or embroidery. Purses are highly practical items, and you can sew a floral pattern on a dark fabric for a dramatic effect.
Other potentially marketable designs are cats and dogs, and colorful birds, like cardinals, bullfinches, toucans, flamingoes, and blue jays.
You can also experiment with different holiday themes, like a Christmas tree, reindeer, snowmen, angels, or Santa Claus.
(4.) Holiday-themed stickers
Stickers might come across as unlikely items for stocking stuffers, but rest assured that there are still a lot of writing enthusiasts who maintain the tradition of sending long, chatty holiday letters, and those who join postcard swaps.
Avid journalers and scrapbook enthusiasts also enjoy buying themed stickers to decorate their blank pages. Design a pack of no less than 10-12 stickers with Christmas themes.
(5.) Knitted or crocheted items

You can knit or crochet snowmen, elves, or reindeers and turn them into keychains or bag charms, a couple of pot holders, or a set of coasters using red and green yarn.
