Against the backdrop of the FIFA World Cup raging on in Qatar and Thanksgiving 2022 in North America and Kantara's strong run in the Indian film industry, leading market data provider Statista has reported on the latest Music and audio apps that are making the maximum noise, bucks and rocking the Google Play Store with their popularity and downloads worldwide.
It is followed by a surprisingly distant second rank for Apple-owned Shazam at 5.44 million downloads, which is just half of Spotify's figure. Youtube Music sits pretty in third with 4.92 million downloads even as karaoke app Starkmaker holds a solid fourth with 3.71 million downloads and Samsung Music completing the top five at 3.63 million downloads. Pandora Music and Podcasts with 3.27 million downloads is followed by JioSaavn and Wynk Music respectively with 2.58 and 2.55 million downloads. Bytedance-owned Resso also witnessed robust growth at 2.46 million downloads while Music Player & MP3 app Lark Player rounded off the tenth spot.
From an Indian perspective, JioSaavn and Wynk Music deserve appreciation for standing out in an understandably chaotic local music industry landscape. It is also a pointer to how greater mobile phone penetration is aiding the boost in mobile app download volumes and going by current trends, we can optimistically expect both to make even bigger strides in the near future given that both the music apps are backed by telecom heavyweights Reliance and Airtel, respectively.
