Grilled Salmon With Wasabi-Dill Yogurt Sauce

This easy grilled salmon recipe is paired with the most delicious wasabi, dill, lemon, and greek yogurt sauce. It’s only 6 ingredients, quick to make, and super nutritious! Option to cook salmon in the oven or on the stovetop, too.

One of our good friends (and also the best cook I know) made this salmon for us for dinner one evening, and I immediately told him I needed to share it on the blog. Luckily he agreed and I can’t wait to share it with you today!

Salmon with a herbed Yogurt Sauce may not sound too unique, but I’m telling you that the addition of wasabi paste made ALL the difference. It added the perfect kick of spice, which paired amazingly with the cooling flavours of greek yogurt and dill.

If you’ve never purchased wasabi paste before, I’d recommend going to a local Asian grocery store OR looking in the Asian section of a larger grocery store. It often comes stored in a tube. It’s also available on Amazon!

Grilling the salmon here was a fun way to give it a bit of a different, smokier flavour, but feel free to prepare the salmon in the oven or on the stove. I’ve included some tips for different cooking options below.

Other Ways You Can Prepare This Salmon Recipe

Grilling the salmon in the way that I’ve shared in this recipe card will give you nice crispy skin and a little bit of that smoky BBQ flavour.

That said, there are many other ways you can prepare salmon to go with this yogurt sauce:

  • If you want crispy skin but don’t feel like getting the grill on, you can sear the salmon on the stovetop. This pan-seared salmon recipe has directions for that (if needed!)
  • If you want salmon that’s more buttery soft, you can bake it in the oven OR cover it in foil before placing on the grill (this will steam the salmon instead).

What To Serve With This Recipe

This salmon and yogurt sauce pair SO well with a side of potatoes or grains like brown rice, quinoa, farro, couscous, or even pasta.

Salmon is an excellent source of quality, complete protein, which helps to protect bone health and prevent muscle loss, among many other functions.

  • a 3-ounce serving provides 17 grams
  • a 6-ounce piece will give you 34 grams

In addition to protein, salmon is rich in heart-healthy unsaturated fatty acids, including omega-3s. Omega-3s are known to support heart health, brain health, and to reduce inflammation overall.

On the micronutrient side, salmon is a great source of B vitamins like:

  • vitamin B12
  • vitamin B6
  • thiamin
  • riboflavin
  • niacin

B vitamins act as coenzymes in many important metabolic processes throughout your body, such as turning the food we eat into energy!

Salmon is also a good source of minerals like potassium and selenium.

Grilled Salmon With Wasabi-Dill Yogurt Sauce

This easy grilled salmon recipe is paired with the most delicious wasabi, dill, lemon, and greek yogurt sauce. It’s only 6 ingredients, quick to make, and super nutritious! Option to cook salmon in the oven or on the stovetop, too (see notes).

  • 4 pieces salmon (approx. 4-6 oz each)
  • Approx. 1 Tbsp olive oil (to brush salmon)
  • Salt + pepper
  • Heat grill to medium-high heat.

  • Brush pieces of salmon with olive oil and sprinkle salt + pepper overtop. Set aside.

  • Make yogurt dressing by stirring together all ingredients in a small bowl. Adjust seasonings to taste (I found it needed a generous amount of salt!)

  • Place salmon on the grill, skin side down. Cook for about 5 mins, undisturbed. Carefully flip salmon and cook for another 4 minutes. Remove from grill.

  • Serve salmon and drizzle with yogurt sauce. Enjoy immediately!

*OTHER WAYS TO COOK SALMON: Grilling the salmon in the way that I’ve shared in this recipe card will give you nice crispy skin and a little bit of that smoky BBQ flavour. That said, there are many other ways you can prepare salmon to go with this yogurt sauce. All will taste great!
  • If you want crispy skin but don’t feel like getting the grill on, you can sear the salmon on the stovetop. This pan-seared salmon recipe has directions for that (if needed!)
  • If you want salmon that’s more buttery soft, you can bake it in the oven OR cover it in foil before placing on the grill (this will steam the salmon instead). I like to bake salmon at 400F for 10-12 mins.

*LEFTOVERS: While best enjoyed fresh, cooked salmon will keep for about 3 days in the fridge. I would recommend storing any leftover sauce separately!
