Tropical Hurricane Cocktail with Hawaiian POG Juice & Rum

A Hawaiian twist on the classic Hurricane cocktail made with passionfruit puree and POG juice instead of orange juice. This fruity, boozy drink is made with two kinds of rum and served over ice in a curvy Hurricane glass.

Let the good times roll! The New Orleans born Hurricane cocktail gets a tropical glow up when you make it with Hawaiian POG Juice.

The original Hurricane cocktail recipe, created in the 1940s at Pat O’Brien’s in New Orleans is made with light and dark rum, orange juice, lime juice, grenadine and passionfruit puree.

I’ve subbed the OJ for Pog Juice, a blend of passionfruit, orange and guava juices, to give it a Hawaiian punch!

The result is a mellow, fruity cocktail that definitely serves vacation vibes! This is the perfect drink to sip poolside or at the beach. It’s great for a luau or a party because you can also make this recipe by the pitcher.

Tropical Hurricane Ingredients

To make a POG Juice hurricane cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • Light rum
  • Dark rum
  • Passion fruit purée – You can use frozen puree from the grocery store or puree made specifically for cocktails, like this type or this kind. Passion fruit syrup or more passion fruit juice can be substituted.
  • POG juice – This cocktail is best with homemade POG Juice.
  • Lime juice – Fresh squeezed is best. This is the citrus juicer I use.
  • Grenadine
  • Simple syrup (optional) – Use if you prefer a sweeter cocktail. You can buy this sugar syrup to sweeten cocktails or make it by dissolving 1 cup of sugar in 1 cup of water over medium-low heat.
  • Crushed ice
  • Orange slices
  • Cocktail cherries

See recipe card for quantities.
