Meatballs with Sauce Tips
- If you’re serving meatballs in sauce, set them in the sauce directly after cooking them so they soak up plenty of flavor!
- Meatballs are tender and fluffy and can fall apart when dipped into sauce that’s too thick, so make sure to serve a thin enough sauce that meatballs don’t fall apart in the bowl.
- Choose a sauce based on the occasion and the way you’re serving meatballs! Buffalo is perfect for dipping cocktail meatballs at a party; meatball sauce is better for a big family dinner with pasta.
- If you’re setting out dipping sauce for a party, make sure to change it out frequently or let people take smaller cups of sauce with them as to avoid cross-contamination.
Meatball Sauces FAQs
The best sauce for meatballs depends on the kind of meatball, and what you want out of the flavor! For Italian-style meatballs, try a tomato sauce or Alfredo. For pork meatballs, Teriyaki might be your best choice. There are so many great flavor combinations!
Adding the sauce before or after cooking depends on how you want to serve your meatballs! Typically, meatballs are at least browned before being added to sauce to let them form a nice crust. They can then be added to sauce to fully cook, or dipped in sauce later if you want to save some meatballs for another meal.
Meatballs are an ultra flexible protein that can be added to all sorts of dinner plans! Serve them on pasta with a cream or tomato sauce for a classic meatballs and pasta, or set them over rice with a sweet chili sauce and steamed vegetables. Or, skewer them on toothpicks and serve them with a range of roasted vegetables for a meal of dipped treats!
