Instructions

The actual recipe itself only takes about 10-20 minutes to prepare, but you will need about 2 hours of chill time for the Jello to set. Be sure to plan ahead!

To Make the Orange Layer

Add orange Jello powder to a large mixing bowl. Pour in 1 cup of hot water and whisk until the jello is completely dissolved.

Allow to cool to room temperature, then stir in the cold orange juice and vanilla liqueur.

Pour your orange jello mixture into the shot cups.

TIP: We placed the plastic cups in a muffin tin so they are easier to move in and out of the refrigerator.

Chill in the fridge until the bottom layer has set, about an hour.

To Make the Orange Cream Layer

Add orange gelatin mix to a large bowl (it can be the same bowl as before, just rinse it out quickly).

Pour 1 cup of hot water into the bowl and stir until the jello completely dissolves.

Allow to cool to room temperature, then stir in the heavy cream and orange liqueur.

Pour the creamy orange layer on top of the clear orange layer in your cups. Chill for an hour until completely set.

When Ready to Serve:

Top with whipped cream and a small orange wedge.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Many Jello Shots Does This Recipe Make?

This recipe should yield about 12 jello shots, depending on the size of your cups and how much you fill them. We used 2 ounce plastic condiment cups for our glasses and they were filled almost all the way. We stopped just enough so that you could put a lid on them and not mess up the jello.

How Long Do Jello Shots Last in the Fridge?

Jello shots are a great make-ahead party recipe because they will stay good in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. I recommend waiting to add any toppings or garnishes until you’re ready to serve.

When storing leftovers or keeping your shots in the fridge ahead of time, put the lids on the cups (if they have lids) or cover the tray of shots with plastic wrap.

What are the Best Types of Liqueurs to Use?

This is totally up to you! Any type of vanilla liqueur, cordial, or schnapps will work as long as it is clear or light yellow in color. Since this will be in the clear orange layer, you don’t want to use a liqueur that is cloudy, white, or another color.

For the orange liqueur, you could use triple sec, Cointreau, etc. Again, take color into consideration, as this will be included in the creamy orange layer.
