Decorate your October mantle with spooky decorations for Halloween using handmade items, antique finds and pumpkins!

For the last couple of years, my kids have wanted me to decorate for Halloween with scary Decor.

I refuse.

I hate scary! Like with a passion. It’s so not my thing – besides, our home is an 1886 Victorian … old houses are just creepy without having to do anything to them (thankfully, I’m not afraid of my house!).

In an attempt to not be a total kill-joy mom, I did decorate our October Mantle a little more spooky than I would have normally done. You can laugh now, I give you full permission! …I know it’s not scary, but to me it’s the perfect level or creepy!

Most of my decor was stuff I had on hand or made.

I began by tasking my husband to cut down a piece of 4×8 plywood for me to 4×4 using his Festool Track Saw. P.S. This thing is amazing! And way easier than pulling out the table saw every time you need to cut a sheet of plywood!

Next I spray painted the back of the sign black and painted the front of my sign Drop Cloth using my favorite chalk paint by Dixie Belle.

Then got busy creating the design for the front with fun facts about our house! I cut the design using my Silhouette Cameo and placed it on my wood board. This took a couple of days to complete because it was so large and took lots of cutting!

When I had successfully applied the transfers onto my board, on the Drop Cloth covered side, I took it outside and spray painted the entire board with black spray paint. Generally, I would have hand painted this part, but with the sign being so humongous, I figured spray painting was my best bet – and it turned out great!

Before I pulled my transfers off, I brought the sign inside to dry…we live in Wisconsin and it’s cooooold in October!

When the spray paint was dry, I removed the transfers and had a gorgeously spooky sign! Perfect for my mantle!

Wooden Bead Garland

I bought the black and white buffalo check garland at Hobby Lobby and made the orange Wooden Bead Garland. You can find out how I make my wood bead garland along with lots of tips on how to make it sturdy!

Once the garland was complete, I hung it up outside and spray painted it with Rustolem orange.

Foam Pumpkin Decor

I brought out my candle holders that I painted white and distressed (the before was so ugly!) and added these cute little ribbon pumpkins that I made. You can see the full tutorial HERE along with 6 Creative Ways How To Decorate Foam Pumpkins

I placed various other pumpkins throughout and added photo frames of my hubby and I that I bought in college!

Of course there were a lot of antique items strew about that gave it a more vintage feel!
