- If you’re salting the beef early, don’t add salt to the seasoning. The beef will already be perfectly salted!
- It’s always a good idea to season beef half an hour before cooking it! This gives the beef time to absorb some of the flavors, and serves the double purpose of letting the meat come to room temperature for even cooking.
- With ground beef seasonings, remember to add a little water with the seasoning mix! This will let the beef simmer in the seasoning mix, ensuring it’s never dry and absorbs the flavor all the way through.
- Many of these seasons are great multi-purpose mixes! It never hurts to make a little extra to store in the pantry to the next cut of beef you cook for dinner.
- If you or your loved ones have food sensitivities, I always recommend making your own seasonings. Taco seasoning, chili seasoning and most mix packets are frequent carriers of unexpected allergens such as wheat, soy, and sesame.
Beef Seasoning FAQ
Steak is delicious on its own, but it’s perfect with salt. I always recommend salting steaks at least 40 minutes before cooking them and it’s the most essential seasoning you can add. For even more flavor, add in earthy spices such as paprika, onion and garlic powder, red pepper, and a little brown sugar for sweetness!
Beef shines when paired with flavors that are just as earthy and rich as the beef itself. For that reason I like adding in paprika, brown sugar, red pepper, and garlic and onion powder, plus your favorite herbs and of course a good quality salt!
The main and most important element to flavorful beef is quality salt. Use kosher or sea salt for beef, as table salt is made of particles that are too small to properly infuse the meat with flavor. Or check out my guide for Salting Steak for an even more thorough rundown of how to make your next beef dish incredible!
You should season steak before cooking it. Whether you’re using a dry seasoning mix or a butter rub, adding seasonings 30-40 minutes before cooking steak will add tons of flavor that absorbs right into the meat, flavoring it all the way through. Adding seasoning afterwards will only flavor the outside for a less satisfying steak.
