Homemade Air Fryer Biscuits

This time is focused on how to make them from scratch, that is always best. It’s easier than you may initially have thought but sometimes you only have time for frozen bread dough and I get that. You can certainly thaw those too and use if you are in a hurry.

If you have your own favorite biscuit recipe then by all means use that. Then we will share the timing and tips below so you can take it from there in case you don’t. In the middle of the two options you can also make fluffy Bisquick biscuits, those would be considered semi-homemade.

Ninja Foodi Biscuits

You can use any hot air machine you might have at home. We have a few including a Foodi, Cosori and AirWave too. They all work the same, some just may have a larger basket so you can “bake” more at once.

If you love semi-homemade baking there is another tweak you can try too. They are just like the Red Lobster versions you love but way easier Bisquick cheddar bay biscuits recipe, or use a roll of refrigerated.

How long do you put biscuits in the air fryer?

Timing varies slightly. Depending on whether they are homemade, refrigerated biscuits or frozen cook time is between 5-10 minutes. A great addition to any meal and won’t take space in your oven.

Why would you bother “baking” this way? Think of the holidays. You have 8 side dishes and a main protein you need to cook. Even if you have a double oven there won’t be room to cook everything all at the same time.

In this case your Cosori and Instant Pot air fryer will become REALLY handy!! That way you can cook these or air fryer bread in this machine, ham in another and everything else the “old fashioned way”.

Biscuits in Air Fryer

In order to make these you will need a few very basic ingredients. If you have made them in the past you’re probably pretty familiar with what you need and how to incorporate butter into your mix….and roll it out evenly.

  1. All purpose flour of course, make sure you are aware of how to measure flour properly first.
  2. Baking powder
  3. Sugar, just a bit will give it a tiny bit of sweetness
  4. Salt
  5. Room temperature butter into the mix and some melted butter brushed on the top before heating
  6. Bowl, flat surface, rolling pin, dough blender and biscuit cutter to shape them

Of course they don’t have to be circular but that is much easier. It’s a nice way to make a small batch too if you just want to cut the recipe in half below.

There is a detailed printable recipe card at the bottom but here is a quick step by step to get you going. If you love buttermilk biscuits that are golden brown on both sides and fluffy, get ready for perfection with these.

  1. Preheat air fryer oven to 400 F for 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl incorporate flour, sugar, salt, baking powder and stir together.
  3. Add the cubed butter and use a fork to smush that in to the flour mixture.
  4. Pour in your milk and stir until combined. If mix is too dry you can add 1 tsp milk until it is a nice doughy but not sticky.
  5. Sprinkle a bit of flour on a cutting board. Put dough on top and sprinkle a little flour on top of that, enough for rolling pin to not stick.
  6. Roll it out flat, then fold it a few times and roll it out again. Use a biscuit cutter so each piece is the same thickness.
  7. Set inside air fryer basket with a bit of space in between each one and brush melted butter on top of each one.
  8. Cook at 400 F for about 10 minutes. Can flip halfway to brown on both sides. Keep an eye out about minute 8 since thicknesses will vary.
  9. Break one in half to ensure middle is no longer sticky, and cooked before consuming.

I would not use parchment paper for this or anything else in this machine. It inhibits the air flow and doesn’t work right. There’s really no need for it anyway. They shouldn’t stick if you make them this way.

Can you cook canned biscuits in an air fryer?

Yes you can and they come out amazingly well I tell you. Refrigerated styles are a bit stickier but just a tiny bit of non stick spray on the bottom will prevent that. I prefer olive oil spray but that is personal preference. You can buy aerosol or add your own oil to a sprayer.

  • Set air fryer to 330 degrees for about 5 minutes.
  • It is best to flip them over halfway through that timing so they brown on both sides.
  • From brand to brand they are slightly different sizes so break one in half at the end to check.
    • If a bit sticky in center then add another minute and check again.

This is great for a really quick side dish for sure. In the summertime when there is NO way I am heating up my kitchen with the oven on, this is the way I “bake”.

As for ready made you would need to reference the info. on the back of those packages instead. It doesn’t count sausage gravy you might want to pour over the top of these, but you should…..

If you don’t want to go all out but still want a sort of semi-homemade mixture you could just use a boxed mix where you just add water. I have done these and my family couldn’t really tell the difference at the end of the day.

Here’s another idea. We made air fryer garlic bread rolls using frozen Rhodes rolls. The taste is out of this world and SO incredibly fluffy.

How long can biscuit dough be kept in the fridge?

If you don’t want to cook them all you can cut them, wrap tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 3 days. When ready leave them on the counter to come to room temperature and then follow cooking directions below.
