Lady Chatterley’s Lover and MacBeth head to Theatr Colwyn

Time for some theatre news for you today folks, as we bring you the news that Theatr Colwyn in Colwyn Bay is having some great shows this coming February with Lady Chatterley’s Lover and a Welsh language version of the classic, Macbeth.

Lady Chatterley at Theatr Colwyn

On the 4th February, a stage version of a book which scandalised the nation upon its release will be at Theatr Colwyn in Colwyn Bay. Lady Chatterley’s Lover, adapted for the stage by Blue Orange Theatre, follows Connie Reid, a cultured, independent thinker who marries the emotionally distant Sir Clifford Chatterley. Connie turns to the bed of the lowborn gamekeeper Mellors and experiences true passion and genuine intimacy for the first time. This however begins to lead to a dramatic love triangle and public scandal.

When the full book of Lady Chatterley’s Lover, by DH Lawrence, was published in the UK in the 1960s, it caused a huge scandal because of the frank description of sex. This scandal ended with the publisher, Penguin Books, in court charged with obscenity.
