Messi criticized the World Cup referee for issuing 15 yellow cards in one game and had him sent home.

Mateu Lohaz, the referee who awarded 15 yellow cards in the World Cup quarterfinal game between Argentina and the Netherlands, has been expelled by FIFA. According to information gathered, Lohaz issued an astounding 13 yellow cards during the full 90 minutes of play and three additional yellow cards during extra time up until the penalty shootout that gave Argentina a 4-3 victory over the Netherlands and a spot in the semifinal matchup against Croatia. Both sides did not think well of the referee's performance, with Argentina's captain and seven-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi leading the charge against Lahoz.

I don't want to talk about the referees because they will punish you afterwards, Messi stated. But everyone witnessed what occurred. I believe FIFA is responsible for handling this since such a match cannot have a referee of that caliber. The referee must be capable of handling the situation. Lahoz won't be working as a referee in the World Cup final or semifinals as a result. On Tuesday (today), Argentina plays Croatia, and on Wednesday, Morocco takes on the reigning winners France. The World Cup final, which will take place on Sunday, December 18, 2022, will feature the champions.
