TOKYO: Grappling with an acute manpower shortage, Japan has started to look towards India for sourcing skilled manpower in various sectors as more and more Japanese companies are making frequent tours of India to look for talent to fill the gap. This trend also holds significance as Japan prepares hard to host the global event World Expo 2025 in Osaka. Hence a huge surge in demand for skilled manpower exists in Japan.
In one such significant development, Kabushiki Kaisha Comsize also known as Comsize Inc – a Tokyo-based IT and skilling company along with Global Gates Corporation of Japan – a company in the hotel and building management sector are looking for more than 1000 Indian professionals in Japan in hospitality sector under newly introduced SSW visa.
Global Gates Corporation owns the distinction of managing the cleaning/disinfection of the Tokyo Summer Olympic and Paralympic Athletes’ Village and hotels in 2021 in Japan. During corona pandemic, it was one of the first companies to handle cleaning and disinfection of hotels used as temporary lodging for passengers on the “Diamond Princess” cruise ship.
Recently, the Overseas Business Head of Kabushiki Kaisha Comsize Mr. Omprakash Raturi – a TITP (Technical Intern Training Program) sending organization (SO) in India, and the CEO of Global Gates Mr. Umemura had a meeting at the Tokyo head office to discuss manpower shortage problem in Japan.
Mr. Umemura has asserted that his company currently commits to guaranteed demand for 1000 Indian professionals to Comsize in the hospitality and building management sector under the SSW (Specific skilled Worker) visa.
“Presently, the Japanese hotel industry is struggling with the acute shortage of various jobs including receptionists, restaurant workers, bellboys, clean management professionals and many more. These jobs do not require much experience and can be trained fast. The only hurdle is that most of the skill tests required to enter Japan under the SSW (Specific Skilled Worker Visa) program have not yet started in India,” he added.
Also, Japan miserably lacks the required manpower volume in Information technology (IT), Nursing-Caregiving, and Food Processing sectors to name a few.
Raturi Omprakash, Head of Comsize International business says, “Indian IT engineers are already in great demand in Japan. Besides IT, the TITP/SSW can also provide great opportunities to Indian semi-skilled professionals/short diploma holders, if managed properly.” Currently, Comsize Inc is also in discussion with few state governments of India for collaboration in (SSW) specific skilled worker visa.
The current number of Indian candidates in Japan under TITP/SSW is still low when compared with other countries. This program in India can grow if the company works in this area collectively rather than looking at other companies as their competitors because one company can’t fulfill the surging demand. The CEO of Comsize Inc., Mr. Ohtaka is really interested in hiring Indian professionals as it is evident from the fact the number of Indian IT professionals in this company increased significantly. Kabushiki Kaisha Comsize which is mainly an IT software development and IT consulting company entered the TITP program last year and started promoting Indian candidates. As a result, it now has a huge demand for manpower in caregiving, hotel jobs, food processing, restaurant work, and building management.

This is not the first time Comsize Inc is attempting to promote the influx of Indian candidates in Japan. It has already made multiple business trips to India and seen huge potential in Indian candidates in every trade. During their recent business trip to India, team Comsize Inc along with its Japan partner Kyodo Kumiai Global expressed their interest to source Indian candidates in the caregiving sector under TITP, and also the IT professionals.
The SVO (Supervising Organization) along with the CEO of Kagawa nursing facilities Mr. Ishimoto, visited multiple states in India to see skilled and semi-skilled candidates in New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Chennai to name a few. The team also visited NEC Japanese Language School in New Delhi and Yen Academy in Indore to see the Japanese language skills of potential Indian candidates.
These Japanese companies also visited the Bombay School of Nursing and R D Nursing College in Indore and were really impressed by the smiling faces of the candidates.

The delegation also visited Sona College of Technology – one of their partners in Salem for IT recruitment and currently interviews are in the process for multiple roles.
