Azure AD integration

The Azure Active Directory synchronization service does not permit the creation of new users for unverified domains in subsequent syncs if your company requires all users to belong to a verified domain. Verified domains are necessary to use Webex in the majority of government agencies.

Known issues with devices in Webex for Government

  • devices.webex.com is now unavailable to users affiliated with the government. Utilizing this solution instead of the Webex App will result in wireless file sharing becoming possible. At the moment, Webex for Government cloud registered devices display an option for their menu settings that reads “To share wirelessly, go to devices.webex.com.” Unfortunately, Webex for Government does not support this option at this time.
  • settings.webex.com is not currently accessible to people affiliated with the government. This option permits personal activation and management of the device, as well as the uploading of a face (for the sake of face recognition), and the creation of individualized backdrops.
  • You will need to enable the Webex Optimized Experience in order for the Join Webex button to function properly on government devices that connect with Edge for Devices. To participate in a government meeting, you can input the meeting number by using the button. For some reason, pressing the button on government devices during commercial meetings doesn’t work.

Limitations of devices in Webex for Government

  • Models of the Webex Room Series that have passed their End of Life date are not supported by Webex for Government. This includes the CTS-series of systems.
  • Users authorized by the government can only use proximity pairing on devices that have been previously registered with the government cloud. In a similar vein, commercial users are restricted to only being able to use proximity pairing with devices that are registered to the commercial cloud.
  • Users affiliated with the government who link their devices with the government cloud are unable to use the Join Using Device button on paired soft clients in order to participate in commercial cloud meetings. Similarly, commercial users that pair with devices that are registered to the commercial cloud are unable to use that button in order to join a conference that is hosted on the government cloud. When this occurs, consumers have the options of:
  • Join the meeting by use the commercial device (for instance, dial the meeting’s SIP URI directly from the device rather than via the soft client).
To participate in the meeting, download the Webex App or the Webex Meetings soft client. They do not use a linked device and instead use the soft client’s join button to participate in the meeting.
  • Devices that have the H.263 video codec installed display the material of shared meetings as embedded content within the main video feed, together with the videos of other participants.
  • When users join meetings beyond a border, such as when business users join Webex for meetings held by the government or vice versa, the experience of joining and being in the meeting is different than when users join meetings that are held within the boundary. The following table provides an outline of the various scenarios that could occur:

Table 1. Join and in-meeting experience

    • Push the Join button (also known as OBTP, or One Button to Push).
    • Complete participation during the meeting, including full participant lists, powerful mute and lock functions, and layout customization choices.

    • Join button (OBTP)
    • Joining requires using the complete video address, which is meeting_number>@site>.webex.com. You will not be able to join by using a short video address such as meeting_number>@webex.com.
    • Experience during meetings was extremely limited (for a comparison, see Webex Device Experience During Meetings).

Webex for Government agencies that are registered in the cloud (on both personal mode and shared mode devices).

    • Join button (OBTP)
    • Experience during meetings was extremely limited (for a comparison, see Webex Device Experience During Meetings).
    • Joining requires using the complete video address, which is meeting_number>@site>.webex.com. Joining a meeting through a short video address, such as meeting_number>@webex.com, is not possible.

    .

    • Join button (OBTP)
    • To join, you will need to enter the entire video address, which is meeting_number>@site>.webex.com. Joining a meeting with a short video address such as meeting_number>@webex.com is not possible.
    • Complete participation during the meeting, including advanced mute and lock functions, layout customization choices, and a complete list of attendees, among other features.

  • Using the Webex video integration with Microsoft Teams, devices that are registered with the Webex for Government cloud cannot participate in Microsoft Teams meetings. Utilizing WebRTC is the workaround that can be used.
  •  Calling using WebRTC to Microsoft Teams is not activated by default. If you need assistance, check out the article titled “Enable WebRTC to Join a Microsoft Teams Meeting from Webex Boards, Room Devices, and Desk Pros.” When attempting to access the Control Hub for your federal organization, you must always use https://admin-usgov.webex.com.
  • Webex for Government does not yet support the integration of Appspace for digital signage. Digital signage that is based on URLs is supported by Webex for Government.
  • On Webex for Government cloud registered devices, the Webex Assistant for Devices feature is not currently available.
  • Google Meet Kits are now incompatible with Webex for Government, therefore you won’t be able to use them there.
In the current time, it is not possible to use Airplay on RoomOS devices within a Webex for Government environment.

Other known issues

  • The Linux version of the Webex App is not currently supported by the Webex for Government platform.
  • Webex for Government does not yet provide access to the People Insights profile database.
  • Users with access granted by the government do not have the People Insights icon () shown on their user profiles.
  • There is now a version of Webex Assistant for Meetings accessible in Webex for Government.
  • The Webex for Government platform does not yet support integration with Slido.

Other limitations

  • While it is possible for a government user to participate in a commercial meeting via the Webex App (by clicking the OBTP Join button), the user will have the same experience as a guest. Launching the meeting in a browser or connecting through SIP is how the Webex App participates in a meeting. The method used depends on whether the meeting specifics include a web address or a video address.
  • Similarly, business users that join government meetings using the Webex App do so as guests either through their browser or by using SIP.
  • Animated GIFs cannot be shared in the Webex App by anyone affiliated with the government. Unfortunately, the GIPHY library cannot be accessed using Webex for Government.
  • The procedure that adds meeting content to a place is not currently supported by Webex for Government. Therefore, there are no recordings of meetings to be found in this area.
  • You will not be able to check in to https://golearn.webex.com/ using your Webex for Government account. Make sure you login in using your newly created Cisco account rather than your personal one.
  • Webex Calling is not yet supported by the Webex for Government platform. In the future, we want to provide support for it.
Self-registration is not supported on the Webex for Government platform, nor is it possible for non-administrators to invite new users. Use one of the other techniques indicated in Ways to add users to your Control Hub organization in order to add users to your organization.
At this time, the “selection” and “shape” features that are included in the enhanced whiteboard experience are not supported by Webex for Government users.

Webex device experience during meetings

The experience that you have when joining a commercial conference from a government device or a Webex for Government meeting from a commercial device is different than the experience that you have when joining a meeting that has been fully optimized for Webex. The most important distinctions are broken down in the table that follows:

Table 2. Full versus limited in-meeting experiences

Feature

Full in-meeting experience

Limited in-meeting experience (joining using SIP)

Confirmation obtained from the lobby of the meeting

To verify yourself, enter your password on the device itself.

To input your password, use the DTMF commands.

Video layout

Multiple video streams are displayed, and there are settings over the video arrangement available on the device.

The display only shows a single transcoded video image, although there are DTMF commands available to modify the video layout.

Content share

Share shows in its own frame.

Both of these are displayed in Share in a larger format in a single frame below, which is part of a single constructed frame that also contains all of the video streams.

Participant list and individual controls

View the list of participants on the device, along with sophisticated controls for each individual participant (such as the ability to mute, remove, or promote them).

No participant list, no advanced controls.

Controls for the meeting (recording, muting everyone, locking, and so on)

Control meeting directly from device.

To take control of the meeting, use DTMF commands.

Breakout sessions

Participate in breakout sessions while using the device.

At this time, these kinds of equipment are unable to take part. (You will continue to participate in the main meeting.)

Face recognition, closed captioning, and Webex Assistant are all examples of intelligent features.

Available.

Not available.

Whiteboarding

A whiteboard is open for viewing and editing by every participant.

The only person who can edit the whiteboard is the host. The whiteboard is the only thing that other participants can see.
