Troubleshooting Hybrid Data Security (HDS) PostgresDB and Microsoft SQL Server Configuration-Webex

How can I diagnose and fix difficulties with the settings of my HDS Postgres DB or SQL Server?
What are the minimum and recommended system requirements for the Postgres DB on HDS?

Please take note that Cisco HDS now supports Microsoft Sql Server as a database as of the 24th of January, 2019.Only fresh installations of Hybrid Data Security will be able to take use of the support for Microsoft SQL Server. The conversion of data from PostgreSQL to Microsoft SQL Server inside an existing deployment is not presently supported by our company.

Troubleshooting PostgresDB and Microsoft SQL Server Configuration for HDS

  • Cisco has no intention of taking on the role of Database Administrator (DBA) for any of our clients. The expectation is that customers will be familiar with, and actively maintain, their own databases.
  • Items that are currently not supported are those that pertain to the upkeep and monitoring of a database (DB).
  • Which method of data protection should I implement?
  • Which tasks am I required to perform in order to keep my database up to date? What is vacuuming?
  • How do I restore a database?
Some examples:
  • Why is a disk size of 2 terabytes recommended when it’s obviously quite large?
  • Disk sizing was performed for large enterprises with HDS servers that would be in use for a long time. Customers with a reduced disk space requirement can use a smaller size, but they must monitor their usage.

PostgresDB System Requirements

  • 1 Postgres 9.6.1 Database Instance (Key datastore)
  • 8 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, 2 TB Disk.
  • User created with createuser.
  • User assigned GRANT ALLPRIVILEGES ON DATABASE TO
Microsoft SQL Server Requirements
  • SQL Server 2016 Enterprise installed and running with Service Pack 2 and Cumulative Update 2 or later, installed and running
    • 8 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, 2 TB Disk.
    • During the setup process, select Mixed Mode Authentication. There is currently no support for the Windows Authentication mode.
    • Options for high availability that are supported include: Failover cluster instances with always-on availability or always-on availability groups
