When watching an anime, it can feel as though you’ve been transported to another universe due to the distorted colors and lighting.

The supernatural is not the only source of fear in this series. Instead, it reveals the terrifying realities of human existence and demonstrates why we should be as terrified of our fellow humans as we are of ghosts. Both natural and unnatural sources of fear are present.

The show takes its audience on a journey into the wackiest possible situations. The audience is virtually coerced into experiencing these situations so that they might reflect on human nature.

Since the script and animation are so well done, the stories rarely resort to cheap scare tactics like sudden, unexpected noises or sudden movements.

There are points where it seems as if two separate plots have been shoved into the same episode. Because of this, some news items may go unnoticed. Some of the endings are too open-ended and don’t do enough to satisfy the audience.

In addition, the anime has omitted crucial details, which makes the narratives of some of the stories unclear, therefore some adaptations have left huge holes.

The story is sidelined at times so that the aesthetics can be the main attraction. The plot is just as vital as the looks in an anime like this.

In the first episode, we visit the home of the strange Hikizuri siblings, who intend to contact their parents in the afterlife.

In episode 2, we find out more about the mysterious ice cream bus driver who takes kids around town on the weekends and about the tunnel where Goro’s mother disappeared.

In the third episode, a celebrity’s ghost is seen floating around like a huge hot-air balloon after she has passed away.

In the fourth episode, Koichi has a mysterious carpenter construct a chamber for him, and Yuji worries that his dream persona may leave his body as soon as he nods off.

In episode 5, Chiemi wants to get her long hair cut after her boyfriend breaks up with her, and Oshikiri invites his new pals over to his place to learn more about parallel universes.

In the sixth episode, Akasaka returns home to find mold growing in every crevice, while Goro is haunted by the dead authors of his books.

In episode 7, two siblings kill a little girl by accident and travel to a cemetery town.

Scientists and the general public alike are fascinated by the sight of two cursed sisters from Episode 8 who are made up of layers of skin and the look of a big fish.

In episode 9, Tomie, who has her secrets, puts a halt to Tsukiko’s business of selling images of popular boys to girls at her school.

Mitsu begins caring for Mayumi, who requires specific instructions for even the tiniest activities, in episode 12. A family names their new cat Coron, but the youngest son’s curse ends up transforming the animal.
