The Crown Season 6 Release Date, Cast, Plotline: When Will It be Out? Check It Out Updates!!

The Crown Season 6 Release date: Netflix has now confirmed that The Crown’s sixth and final season will be its last. When the show first started, that was the plan, but for a while, things changed and season five was supposed to be the last one.

Since the show’s creator Peter Morgan changed his mind in July 2020, that is no longer the case. If you want to know why that might have happened, here’s what Netflix says about it:

“As soon as we started talking about the plots for series five, it became clear that we needed to go back to the original plan and do six seasons to do the story justice.

When the Crown Season 6 Might Come Out ? When Will It Be on?

Netflix hasn’t said when season six of The Crown will come out, but based on when the previous seasons came out, we can guess that it will be around November 2023.

But things might be a little different this time since filming for season six had to stop after the Queen died.

In an interview with Deadline, writer Peter Morgan talked more about this decision “The Crown is a love letter to her, and for now, I have nothing more to say than respect and silence. I think we will also stop shooting out of respect.”

When The Crown first started in 2016, the director, Stephen Daldry, hinted that plans were already in place in case the Queen died (via Deadline): “We don’t know when that time will come, but it would be right and proper to show respect to the Queen. It would be a simple way to show respect and pay homage. She is known all over the world, and this is what we should do.”

Taking all of this into account, season six of The Crown could easily come out in December 2023 or even early 2024.

Who is in Season 6 of the Crown?

The Crown Season 6 Release Date

Since this is an even-numbered season of The Crown, there won’t be any big changes in the main roles. This means that all of the following actors should be back for season six:

  • Imelda Staunton plays Queen Elizabeth II
  • Prince Philip was played by Jonathan Pryce
  • Princess Margaret was played by Lesley Manville
  • John Major is played by Jonny Lee Miller
  • Dominic West as Prince of Wales Charles
  • Elizabeth Debicki plays Princess Diana of Wales.
  • Marcia Warren played Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother
  • Olivia Williams plays Camilla Parker Bowles
  • Princess Anne is played by Claudia Harrison
  • James Murray played Prince Andrew
  • Khalid Abdalla as Dodi Fayed
  • Bertie Carvel is Tony Blair
  • Peter Townsend, played by Timothy Dalton

During the last season of The Crown, two different actors have been cast to play Prince William at different ages.

What Will Happen in Season 6 of the Crown?

After an early table read in August 2022, actor Dominic West told Deadline that the final season “will be as tumultuous as it gets.” And he’s right, because this is when The Crown will finally show the tragic death of Princess Diana.

One of Deadline’s sources said that there was “anxiety behind the scenes” before shooting that scene, even though Diana’s death won’t be shown on screen.

A source told Deadline, “We’ve been afraid of getting to this point.” “The countdown is down to two weeks, and while we’re calmly going about our business, it’s fair to say that there’s some anxiety, a sense of being on the edge. I mean, this is a bombshell in terms of how sensitive it is.”

Most likely, this is why the writers have chosen to focus on the events leading up to Diana’s death and then the events after her death. For many, it would be too much to show the whole crash.

We don’t know anything else about the plot yet, but based on the time period this last season will cover, we can expect to see the Queen and Prince Philip’s golden wedding anniversary (1997), the deaths of the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret (2002), the Queen’s Golden Jubilee (2002), Prince Charles and Camilla’s wedding (2005), and more glimpses of Tony Blair’s time in office (1997-2007).

When we look even further ahead, where will the last season of The Crown end up? Will it ever get to what’s happening now?

In an interview with Broadcast, producer Suzanne Mackie said that showrunner Peter Morgan won’t go past the early 2000s because: “Peter put it very clearly when he said that he can’t write anything until he’s had time to get a good view of it. I think he has always thought that 10 years is the least amount of time he needs to look back on something to really understand it.”

Morgan has changed his mind before about how the world will end, so will this plan work out?

Mackie added, “I don’t think he’ll go against that.” “We all know these stories, but what Peter does so well is dig deeper and see the world in a way that is more nuanced, complex, and surprising.

When Can I Watch the Sixth Season of The Crown?

Season six of The Crown is well into production, so we should see more photos and clips from the final run very soon. In fact, this article already has a lot of them. Keep this page bookmarked, though, because there will be more teasers and ads here from now until the start of season six at the end of 2023.

How Many Episodes of the Crown Season 5?

The first five seasons of The Crown each have 10 episodes, so we would expect season 6 to have the same amount.

Is season 6 of The Crown really the last season?

As of now, season 6 is the last part of The Crown, but a prequel series has reportedly been talked about.

In April of this year, Deadline said that Netflix was “talking with The Crown producer Left Bank in the early stages.”

“Not yet in development and not close to getting the green light,” the streamer said.

The article said that the show would probably take place before World War II or during Queen Victoria’s rule.

Will Harry and Meghan’s Relationship Be Talked About on The Crown?

The Crown Season 6 Release Date

If you’re hoping that Peter Morgan will look into the relationship between the two former royals in future seasons, don’t hold your breath.

When season 6 was announced, he said, “Just to be clear, season 6 won’t bring us any closer to the present day. Instead, it will just let us cover the same time period in more depth.”

Morgan spoke directly about the two of them in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter: “Meghan and Harry are in the middle of their journey, and I don’t know what it is or how it will end. One hopes for happiness, but I’m much more comfortable writing about things that happened at least 20 years ago.”
