Third, it looks like the movie will involve time travel in some way, since Nazis and Roman soldiers have been seen on the set, which suggests that the story may involve a time machine.

Harrison Ford says that this fifth movie will explain why the series didn’t end with the fourth: He told Empire, “I just thought it would be cool to see one where Indiana Jones was at the end of his journey.” To paraphrase, “If a script came along that I felt gave me a way to extend the character,” I would consider taking it. This script was written by Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, who also worked with Mangold.

Mangold also talked to Empire and said, “It became really important to me to figure out how to make this a movie about a hero at sunset.”

“I didn’t think that the things I said about Indy’s age were being taken into account in the things that were being made at the time. There were some “old” jokes, but that wasn’t what the show was about. From my point of view, you should head straight for your biggest risk. If you try to act like it’s not there, you’ll get nothing but slings and arrows.”

According to A Frame, producer Frank Marshall said, “It’s a great story, it’s a great character, and I think you’re going to be very happy with this movie. It has everything I think people want in an Indiana Jones movie.”

Mikkelsen also gave a hint about the fifth movie in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He said, “[Raiders of the Lost Ark] was one of my favourite movies, and it just oozed that golden period of serials from the 1940s. That’s in the fifth movie, too.”

“They’re going back a lot to the first and second films to get that original feel, the original Indy, something dense and epic.”

Part of going back means that there might be flashbacks, and Variety says that the movie will have a version of Ford that hasn’t aged.
