Shane names his Welsh fifteen Stars of the year

Jordan Williams at fullback, Keiran Williams at the centre, Keiron Assiratti at prop, and Morgan Morris of the Ospreys in the back row are Shane’s four uncapped participants. Nine Ospreys, six Scarlets, four each from Cardiff and the Dragons, and nine players from Ospreys make up his 23-man roster. Warren Gatland will find his choices to be thought-provoking.

Returning try ace Tomi Lewis, who ripped it up in England this season by aiding shirts Reds win the Championship, is one of the Scarlets he selects. Shane believes the young player, returning to Llanelli after making a name for himself with a shirt, can succeed Leigh Halfpenny and Liam Williams as Wales’ full-backs in 18 months.

Sam Lousi and Vaea Fifita, the Scarlets’ Tongan lock duo, are two of the two international players to make the team. Other than that, Shane feels that the Welsh teenagers in the selection give hope for the future following what has been a disappointing season for each of the four regions.

“Is this the worst season ever for the four Welsh senior teams? If not, then it won’t be too long off, adds Shane. As the saying goes, things will only continue to get improve.”

Steff Evans’ selection

Steff Evans is chosen for one of the wings, even though Gatland did not include the Scarlets flyer in his large Rugby World Cup 2023 practice squad. The majority of the Welsh competitors Shane selects to have a good chance of travelling to the France Rugby World Cup this autumn. Jordan Williams and Morgan Morris, however, have not been chosen by Gatland in addition to Evans.

Evans, in his words, “served as in outstanding form for the Scarlets, scoring 12 goals in 23 matches.”

Keiran Williams and Mason Grady, his two young centres, are “international players in waiting,” according to him.

He did a fantastic job of consistently bringing the Ospreys over the goal line with his direct rushing and quick feet. In light of the fact that his old colleague Joe Hawkins is no longer in the race, he seems to me to be prepared for action on the grandest of stages.

“Grady, on the other hand, reminds me of a young George North when he first appeared on the pitch. He is swift, enormous, elusive, and equally at home in the centre or on the flank. He is likely to develop into a crucial weapon for both club and nation.”

Another young player, Scarlets No. 10 Saw Costelow, is selected as the fly-half, and Rhys Webb, a seasoned player, is named the starting scrum-half. Gatland still needs to decide on his Rugby World Cup nine players, with Webb competing for a position versus Tomos Williams, Kieran Hardy, and Gareth Davies.

Shane’s front-row participant

Shane’s front row includes Ospreys loosehead Nicky Smith, who was passed over for the Six Nations, while Dragons hooker Elliot Dee was chosen before Wales’ Six Nations leader Ken Owens due to his outstanding play for the Rodney Parade team.

Many competitors might have been selected for the back row, according to him, however, he chose the Ospreys’ Jac Morgan, Justin Tipuric, and Morgan Morris trio as “the greatest pairing.” Morris beats out No. 8-ranked Taulupe Faletau of Cardiff & Wales for the position.

Lee played a 40-minute cameo versus Newport on Saturday for Welsh Premiership team Llandovery after being sidelined since March 2022 due to a career-threatening Achilles damage sustained while playing for the Scarlets.

The 30-year-old has 45 international victories under his belt and is eager to don the red shirt once more. He acknowledges that he has little chance of being prepared for the upcoming competition in France RWC.

“I won’t have enough time to get match-ready or near to where I want to be for the RWC 2023, he claimed. Although I still hope to one day represent my nation, I don’t believe this is the right time. If an invitation came, I would surely accept it.”

He continued, in response to a question about his appearance over the weekend, “It was always the intention to just get little game-time and 40 minutes was plenty. Even though the lungs were a little puffy, it felt amazing to play again. There have been many ups and downs over the past 14 months, however, I just focused on what I had to accomplish, stated Lee.”

“As so much weight passes through that region, there continually exists a danger that a tighthead prop will not survive the injury. But I pushed myself to get return there, and the Scarlets were quite supportive of me. My physical therapist had to endure a lot of whining. I’m just anticipating what the next step holds for Scarlets and everything else right now.”

“The athlete said, “I’ll be investing the summer getting ready for the upcoming season so that I’ll be ready for action, getting enough involvement in games as I can, and, perhaps, allowing me to compete for Wales once more.”

Confirmation of Borthwick’s coaching ticket

Before the Rugby World Cup, Steve Borthwick travelled back to Leicester to appoint Tom Harrison as the new scrum instructor for his England team. Harrison, who will take over for Richard Cockerill on June 1st, follows in the footsteps of the selections of Richard Wigglesworth, Aled Walters, and Kevin Sinfield, all of whom have left the Tigers for England.

Harrison, who was a member of the squad that claimed the Premiership championship in 2022, now serves as the Tigers’ assistant trainer and is in charge of scrum coaching.

“Tom is a great instructor and will have a significant effect in a field that will be important for us as a squad,” remarked Borthwick. Tom played a crucial role in Leicester’s success, and their scrum is recognised throughout Europe for its achievements. I have complete faith in him and am delighted that he is moving to England.”

The chief executive of Leicester, Andrea Pinchon, confirmed Harrison’s resignation and continued, “Since joining Leicester Tigers, Tom has been an incredible performer to the club on and off the field. We regret seeing him leave after the campaign, but we hope for his luck in his future efforts.”

“While it has been an additional obstacle for us this year with instructors being recruited by the national side, we keep seeing it as an identification of honour for the standard at which we are regarded within the sport. Tom is an excellent representation of our club’s skill to develop instructors in addition to participants via the Leicester Tigers route programme.”
