One of the nifty things about the worldwide phenomenon of streaming is the absolute wealth of ongoing televised shows which viewers have to choose from. Oftentimes more daring and bold and willing to take chances which their network television brethren will not, the advent of all of this new content has led to a sort of Indian Summer of entertainment choices for viewers everywhere. Of course, there’s a lot of dreck one has to sift through in order to get to the genuine treasures of episodic TV, but once you land on an absolute gem like Amazon’s Jenny Han-created love letter The Summer I Turned Pretty, then it’s biscuit and gravy time, Dear and Constant Reader. What’s that? Never heard of one of the better series currently going strong on streaming? Methinks that’s soon to change with the news from our Summer of ‘42 pals over at Variety of a season 3 renewal for the show which will also hopefully lead to an increased spotlight on its coming of age misadventures.

 For those not in the know about The Summer I Turned Pretty, here’s a handy-dandy condensed primer: This heartfelt series follows the love triangle between a young girl and two brothers. It ain’t all Peyton Place, though; this series has real bite as it navigates the universal themes of first loves and first heartbreaks. The series proper is based faithfully off of Han’s own series of books of the same name.

In a press release announcing the season 3 renewal, MGM (which co-produces the series with Amazon) Big Wheel Vernon Sanders – no relation to the Colonel, we’re sure – said that  “We’ve been delighted to see the passion with which fans have embraced ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty,’ making ‘Summer’ Fridays an entertainment phenomenon. This charming, deeply heartfelt series has shown the breadth of our customer base, appealing to a young, diverse set of viewers. Jenny Han is a gifted storyteller, whose fans have been clamoring for the third chapter of this story. We’re excited today to share the news that they have a lot more ‘Summer’ to look forward to. Thank you to Jenny, Sarah Kucserka and Karen Rosenfelt and our friends at Wiip for their remarkable work and partnership.”

Not so fast, kiddies: We’ve still got dual strikes in the entertainment industry to contend with before this newly green-lit season can begin production.
