  1. We’re very happy to be speaking today with acclaimed singer, writer and film and theatre director extraordinaire Ada Morghe; greetings and salutations, Ada! Before we dive down the proverbial Q&A rabbit hole, how has your 2023 been treating you so far?

Thank you very much for having me! 2023 has treated me pretty well so far. My Album will be released in February, so the year has started quite busy with a lot of exciting news. I am very thankful to have such an incredible team backstage and on stage.

  • Congratulations on the recent release of the second single Here Now off of your upcoming album Lost! What suggested for you that Here Now was the appropriate tune to feature as the sophomore single off of the new album?

HERE NOW stands out by its instrumental simplicity compared to the rest of the album. The Song sits in the middle of the album and to me it always feels like taking a deep breath before the “big bang”. That’s why I wanted it to be the sophomore single of the album, that way I reminded myself to enjoy the journey until the album drops.

3.)     The official video for Here Now is a truly mesmerizing gem! How

involved were you in the production of the music video for Here

Now?

Before we went to the studio for the second time, I knew that I was going to record the piano files for HERE NOW, so I thought, why not film that process. Behind-the-scenes videos usually have a magic to them that you can’t reproduce, but of course you need a great director who knows how to capture these authentic moments without distracting the recordings. Mark Craig is such a director.

  • Speaking of mesmerizing and gems, your third album which is entitled Lost is set to premiere on February 24; kudos! What can you tell readers about the new album? What was the genesis of this amazing piece of music?

The ingredients of this album are friendship, creativity and trust. Since five years I´ve been working together with the same musicians and over the time we have grown into a family where we understand each other blindly. Basically, the album was created in three steps. For the first session I explained the concept, making an album shaped around the four elements to my band and my producer along with musical references and ideas that I wrote on the piano. The first recording session was a free-flowing improvisation. In a second step I found melodies and lyrics to the Music in close cooperation with my producer. In a third step we went back to the studio, recorded transitions in between the songs and some missing music pieces that I needed to complete the vision I had in mind for this album. The creation of this album was a very long process, but one of the most magical journeys I’ve ever experienced.

  • How is Lost similar to your sophomore album? How is it different?

Similar is the setting and the people. Just like my previous album, LOST was recorded at Real World Studios and with the same people, but as mentioned the creative process was different. For BOX I have written songs and then went into the studio to record them. This new album is a collaboration between my musicians, my producer and me. I think a great vision is never the work of one person unless you are Prince The best gift you can get as an artist is to find your creative family. People who trust your intuition and are willing to contribute their creativity, their personality to the project.

  • The sound which you achieve on Lost is truly lush and full of life and energy. Can you introduce our readers to some of the talented musicians who helped bring it all to life?

The music of LOST was mainly taken from the first free-flowing improvisation recording session. You can even hear us talking in the back. This is probably why it sounds so full of life. The other reason is of course the enormous musical talent in the room. I am very blessed that I have gathered some of the best musicians of the UK around me. Livingstone Brown, my music director and bassist has been in the business for over 40 years, toured with Bill Withers and Tina Turner, just to name a few. He is also a well-known producer, a multi-instrumentalist, a whirlwind of creativity and has always been a huge support for me. Luke Smith, my keyboarder, is a legend on his instrument, he has worked with Amy Winehouse i.e. There is a deep understanding and connection between all of us. When Luca Boscagin plays his guitar solos I always feel like he’s “reading” myself. Josh, who plays drums on this album, known under his stage name MckNasty, comes from a family full of musical talents. His younger brother i.e. is Labrinth. Josh´s talent fills the room with an energy that pushes everyone to their limits and he has an incredible understanding and feeling of music and bringing it to life.

  • Who was your producer on Lost and what did the collaboration between artist and producer look like in the studio?

I worked with Hans-Martin Buff again, who also produced my previous albums. For LOST we worked together very close from the beginning to the end. We were constantly sharing ideas on producing, writing and finalizing the songs.

8.)     You’ve been compared to the legendary Edith Piaf. Is this iconic chanteuse an influence on you and your music?

I think the comparison to Edith Piaf mainly occurred because of my love to France. I lived in Paris after graduation, and I am a big fan of the passion of the French chansonniers. But to be honest one of my favorite songs is the Edith Piaf cover of “La vie en rose” by Grace Jones.

9.)     What do you hope listeners walk away with after giving Lost a couple of dozen spins on their hi-fi systems?

I hope, they get “lost” in the music and fill the songs with their own stories, memories and emotions.

10.)   On the heels of the release of Lost can fans look forward to seeing you on the touring circuit?

We will have our album launch in London at Notting Hill Arts Club on March 12th, before heading to Germany for a tour. Really looking forward to this.

11.)   As a singer and songwriter, which generally comes first for you – The lyrics or the music?

Usually the music. I start improvising on the piano, having a picture or a sentence in mind that inspires me. I then live a while with that melody before words start to form in my head. Sometimes the lyrics are there right away, sometimes it takes months. I think you cannot force a story, if it’s not ready to be told. I can be very impatient, but when I create, I know that I need to leave room for the right idea to come up.

12.)   Any final words that you might like to share with readers regarding Lost?

The last song of the album is called WE ARE ONE. We are living on the same planet, and we are all connected no matter where we come from. A sentence of an artwork of Johannes Koch was a great inspiration for this album: “Planet earth recommends to get lost.”
