Katy’s Kookies: Protein bars for fitness freaks by Nutritionist Katy Unruh

There’s no denying that Protein Bars are one of the most popular snacks among fitness freaks. They’re easy to grab on the go, provide a good dose of protein, and come in a variety of delicious flavors. But with so many options on the market, it can be tough to know which ones are worth your while.

If you’re always looking for ways to make your workouts a little bit easier—and as a bonus, love snacks that are both delicious and healthy, you’re probably constantly on the lookout for the next best protein supplement for building muscle and recovering from workouts. But getting enough protein can be tough, especially if you’re trying to eat healthily. That’s where Katy’s Kookies comes in. Their protein bars are specifically designed for fitness enthusiasts who want the best of both worlds: a delicious snack that also has the nutrients you need to stay energized and focused during your workouts.

Founder and nutrition coach, Katherine “Katy” Unruh, has been a trainer for over 25 years and has created these bars to help people meet their fitness goals. Each 80g bar is packed with 20 grams of protein, 15 grams of fiber, and 270 calories. With flavors like Chocolate Chip Pancake and Chocolate Peanut Butter Krunch—with a total of seven flavors—it’s easy to see why Katy’s Kookies are becoming a favorite among fitness fanatics everywhere.

To maximize the health benefits, these bars are completely organic with all-natural ingredients and no additives or preservatives. Additionally, they are also gluten-free and contain no added sugars making them the perfect high-performance snack.

When questioned about the benefits of the Klean Bar, Katy remarked, “The best thing about these bars is that they are natural, healthy, macro-friendly, and low in sugar while being high in fiber. In short, they have everything one is looking for in a power snack. I also wanted the bars to be enjoyable—not seem like a chore to meet your fitness targets—so we’ve packed the bars with unique flavors and ensured that there is no lingering aftertaste.”

In addition to the on-the-go Klean Bars, Katy’s Kookies has a second line of protein bars in the frozen meal category. Called Katy’s frozen meal replacement bars, these act as high-energy protein supplements that can be frozen or stored in a refrigerator. They are available in four flavors: original, black forest, kokonut krave, and apple crisp for delivery to local customers.

Although a favorite with gym enthusiasts, protein bars have long been a cause of debate in the health sector. While fitness trainers swear by them, a medical practitioner—your GP—might tell you not to make a habit of consuming them. This is because while convenient, in general, protein bars are doused with fructose additives working as sweeteners that can be very harmful to some of your most essential organs—particularly the liver—and can result in diabetes or obesity.

One would assume that with health risks like that, the purpose of a “fitness bar” is defeated. Fortunately for her clients, Katy, having a Degree in Nutrition, realized the same. She believed that to truly offer a healthy substitute to her clients, she would have to create a formula that offers all the benefits of a protein supplement without any of the side effects. Her main motivation behind creating the bar was to “help clients stay interested in meals and stay on track with their health and fitness goals,” as she put it.

These bars, as per Katy, are not just created for athletes but are a great source of nutrition for anyone who requires a quick meal without having the time for one. “Food is fuel, but it is also an expression of how you feel. Whether you are an athlete, foody, vegetarian, into organic food, or just too busy to even think about your next meal, there should be a quick and effective meal for you. Nutrition, energy, and wellness should be at the top of your list when managing your dietary needs. Flavors and texture should definitely come into play but not at the expense of using artificial ingredients like sweeteners, flavors, and shelf stabilizers,” Katy Unruh said on a parting note.
