Hi Coco, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hello hello! I am really good! Life is super hectic at the moment with the Song release, preparing for the next release, coming back home after 3 months in America, and Christmas around the corner! But I definitely can not complain.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Bruised Ego”?

My latest single “Bruised Ego” is a pop rock revenge banger about your classic ‘fuckboy.’ I wanted to write the most unapologetic, straightforward anthem to scream in your bedroom, about wasting your time with a selfish, entitled person that realistically only hits you up when it’s convenient for them. Created with one of my favorite producers, Liam Quinn, we mixed my Love of electronic production with beautiful live violins and guitars. It’s an emotional rollercoaster from both the lyrics and instrumentation and I am so excited to finally share it!

Did any particular event inspire you to write this song?

I have witnessed so many of my friends get screwed around by toxic partners – from being ghosted to cheated on, put down, and strung along – there is something so enticing about a confident person, but when they love themselves drastically more than they’ve got love for you, it is time to say goodbye. After a long relationship from my teens to 20s, it was my first time in the dating scene and I thought I had met a pretty cool guy… Skip a couple of months in and I started to see how this “game” is played. You only get the texts when it’s convenient for them, they are talking to other girls, and it hurts!!!! I instantly turn to Spotify playlists for ‘Heartbreak Hits To Make You Cry’ because who doesn’t? There’s nothing better than getting it out of your system with Music. That’s when it hit me… I don’t want to cry! I want to SCREAM! So I jumped in a session with Liam Quinn, a producer I work with, and got everything off my chest, turning this built-up frustration into a bit of fun (not expecting to release it!). Skip to 6 months later and here we are.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

Filming a music video is always one of my favorite parts of this whole process. I love creating a visual world for my songs. I was so lucky to work with AWOL Productions here in Sydney, who pitched the fun idea of creating a hospital scene as the storyline is about a “Bruised Ego,” and we had the repetition of him always texting me but not even noticing I am there. From this, we built my wild pink world, actually set in my own apartment in Bondi, taking inspiration from artists such as Katy Perry, Zolita, and Peach PRC. I love fashion and have a background in acting, so creating all of these scenes was a blast! We had a full day of shooting over 13 hours. The lead male was played by my best friend, Max Selby. My Mother, Cherie Bevan, flew down as the stylist, and our other best friend, Nicole Stanislav helped on set. Having the 3 closest people in my life get to work with me is a dream come true – it was so much fun! We created a mini-movie around this song so definitely check it out on YouTube.

How was the recording and writing process?

As I mentioned earlier, I was not expecting to release this song. I went into a quick 2-hour session with producer Liam Quinn expecting to just make a fun hook, so I put in all the swear words and went a little wild, this was only ever meant to be a bit of a laugh! However, at the end, we were both like “Shit…. I think we need to release this!” So a couple of months later we spent the day in the Studio creating the whole song. He produced the track whilst I finish writing, we riff off each other, I jump in the booth and do a million vocal takes as I am super fussy with vocals, and then we got a live violinist to jump in the booth as well for the bridge to really bring this special, orchestral sound that completely contrasts the rest of the song. We created this captivating, angry yet amusing song that I am so proud of.

Was it easy for you to open up or did you have any second thoughts?

If you have seen my social media you’ll quickly learn I am not one to hold back. I put it all out there (which is sometimes good and sometimes bad!), but it is always authentic. So no, never any second thoughts.

What role does living/growing up in Sydney play in your music?

Sydney is the best place in the world for everything except the Performing Arts. We have the most amazing talent down under, and I am loving seeing the Industry finally grow here, but there is still so much room for opportunities, it hurts my soul a little bit when I come from America and compare! However, I am so blessed to have a close circle of friends in the Music Industry as well, who mainly Produce and DJ, that I am thankful to rely on and take inspiration from.

Does the new single mean we can expect more new material – how’s that coming along?

Asking the big questions…. I haven’t shared this yet, but yes! There is a new song coming out in January. I absolutely love house music and the EDM world, so I am stepping away from my very poppy sound for a bit to start delving into this side of it all. I am honestly so excited for this next release because it is not a sound my listeners will be expecting and it will broaden my fanbase. It’s a good one if I can say so myself!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I can’t share all my secrets at once! Stay tuned on my socials.

What else is happening next in Coco Bevan’s world?

So much! We have a bunch of releases for 2023 lined up from pop to house music, so we will be releasing every 6-8 weeks. Music aside, I love fashion so continuing to be the colorful one to stand out from the crowd. Lots of festivals. I am constantly vlogging my out-of-the-ordinary life and figuring out my 20s, so jump onto my TikTok & Instagram to keep up to date! I can’t sit still, so who knows exactly where I will end up next year, but I know it’s going to be a blast!
