After all but sweeping the Emmys this year with a jaw-dropping ten awards (which a little friendly neighborhood birdie called The Hollywood Reporter assures us was a record for any series in 2022), one might wonder exactly what Mike White’s acclaimed anthology series The White Lotus could possibly do for an encore. What’s left, after all? How about a handy-dandy third season renewal courtesy of the shows home network, HBO? Yep, that ought to about do it as far as a fruitful follow-up to its recent awards bonanza goes…

 If you’re not already, we implore – nay, adhere! – you to check out The White Lotus. The premise of the comedrama series is deceptively simple enough and very easy for new viewers to jump into the proceedings at any time: As viewers, we’re privy to the actions in each episode of the guests and employees of a resort chain known as White Lotus. Each episode features a new guest and dives into whichever dysfunction they’re suffering through (or not; not every guest – or employee – is angst-ridden). Two seasons in, the producers have already given us two very different locales for the far-flung White Lotus resort – Hawaii and Italy.

The White Lotus is an American comedy-drama anthology television series created by Mike White for HBO. It follows the guests and employees of the fictional White Lotus resort chain, whose stay becomes affected by their various dysfunctions. The first season is set in Hawaii and the second season is set in Sicily.

“Reflecting on The White Lotus’ humble, run-and-gun origin as a contained pandemic production, it’s impossible not to be awestruck by how Mike orchestrated one of the buzziest and most critically acclaimed shows,” HBO Programming Big Wheel Francesca Orsi elaborated during a statement regarding the season three renewal. “And yet, he’s only continued to reach new heights in season two, which is the ultimate testament to Mike’s raw, unparalleled vision. His courage to explore the uncharted waters of the human psyche, paired with his signature irreverent humor and buoyant directing style, have us all dreaming of more vacation days at the resort we’ve come to adore. We couldn’t be more thrilled to get the chance to collaborate on a third season together.”

For his part, creative guru Mike White had this to say about another season headed our way:

 “There’s no place I’d rather work than HBO and there’s no people I’d rather partner with than Casey Bloys, Francesca Orsi, Nora Skinner and their incredible team. I feel so lucky to get this opportunity again and am excited to reunite with my amazingly talented collaborators on The White Lotus.”
