Kongowea market protests today, traders protest over increased Mombasa County CESS 2024 fees

Kongowea market traders protest over increased CESS fees as indicated on the Mombasa County Finance Bill 2024.

There are no trucks at the market. Food commodities at the Kongowea market are scarce as the suppliers dump their lorries at Miritini, protesting the increase in CESS fees even before the county finance bill passed.

Chaos erupts at Kongowea Market after a spike in the price of commodities following the assentment of the Mombasa County Finance Bill 2024.

There is a lot of commotion at Kongowea Market today. It seems that the Mombasa County government increased taxes for traders without proper consultation. Cess has gone up for commodities like tomatoes, Miraa, and Muguka.

Today, no truck was allowed to access Kongowea Market, and the traders are adamant they won't bring their commodities until their grievances are addressed.

Traders at Kongowea Market in Mombasa are also unhappy over increasing waste accumulation at vending areas.

Miraa guys are causing chaos in Hapo Kongowea after increased taxation by the same bill. " Miraa Inaharibu Mayouth Huku, the governor, has increased the tax on khat as an incentive to reduce the use of the drug," Kongowea trader said.
