Court orders Mathe Wa Ngara to pay state Ksh. 13 Million being proceeds of crime

The Court Orders Mathe Wa Ngara to pay the state Ksh. 13 million for the crime proceeds. Mathe Wa Ngara, real name Nancy Indoveria Kigunzu, loses Sh13.4 million seized last year from her house to the state after the court declares it the proceeds of a crime.

The Assets Recovery Agency (ARA) received orders from the High Court to freeze Sh13.4 million from suspected drug trafficker Nancy Indovera Kigunzu, also known as "Mathee wa Ngara."

The Central Bank of Kenya is currently holding the cash that the police confiscated from the businesswomen's residence, and Justice Diana Kavedza has ordered it to remain intact.

This decision was made in response to an application by the state agency, which claimed that the funds were obtained through illegal activities.

The Central Bank of Kenya has issued a safeguarding and confiscation order worth Sh13,474,520. The Central Bank of Kenya found and confiscated this amount from Kigunzu.

Justice Kavedza ordered that the orders would stay in force for 90 days, in accordance with Section 84 of the Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act.

Additionally, the judge had ordered that Kenya Commercial Bank, specifically the Kenyatta International Convention Centre branch, place the money in a safeguarding account.

The money was to be placed in the Assets Recovery Agency's (ARA) account. The court required a certified copy of the deposit slip as evidence of the deposit.

The instructions came into effect after investigator Kipkirui Serem submitted an immediate action request to the agency, stating that the money was obtained through illegal means and intended for criminal activities.

The police arrested Kigunzu and took her to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) law courts for arraignment. The police granted her a five-day detention period during her arrest to complete their inquiry.
