Raila says Azimio will form its own electoral commission and divide the country

An alternative national electoral Commission would be established, according to Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

Contrary to the statutory requirement that the President designate the members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission upon the appointment panel's suggestion.

Raila stated in a speech on Friday at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation that his party will gather signatures to overthrow the existing government.

"We have learned that the Kenya Kwanza regiment intends to move on with the formation of the panel on its own. To undermine this dictatorship, we will gather signatures from Kenyans, set up an electoral commission, and hold a referendum," he stated.

He continued by saying that if Kenya Kwanza created a commission without Azimio's participation, the commission would belong to them.

Notwithstanding a brief electoral truce between Ruto and the leader of the opposition, the selection of the next IEBC members has continued.

Nelson Makanda, the chairman of the IEBC recruiting panel, told the Star that his staff never ceased to work on the recruitment campaign.

After negotiations with Azimio broke down, the Kenya Kwanza bipartisan team cleared the recruiting to move forward the next day, which is when Makanda spoke.

The hire of the referee by the ruling party at the expense of the other parties, however, drew a warning shot from the opposition.

The President appoints the selecting committee for the IEBC commission.

It is made up of one representative from the Kenyan Law Society, two individuals from the Inter-religious Council of Kenya, and two men and two women from the Parliamentary Service Commission.

The judiciary ought not to fall under the oversight or supervision of any person or entity, according to the Constitution.

Raila praised Kenyans for participating in Saba Saba Day celebrations all around the nation.

Raila outlined three ideas for President William Ruto's administration to take into account.

He suggested that the President reduce living expenses, review the tax hikes he has placed on Kenyans, and reconsider his choice to choose IEBC commissioners.
