Why was Calvin Okoth Otieno, alias Gaucho, arrested at City Hall?

Calvin Okoth Otieno, alias Gaucho, the self-declared leader of Bunge la Mwananchi, was arrested on Monday outside Nairobi's City Hall and then freed on a Ksh. 5,000 cash bond by a Kiambu court on Tuesday.

Before undercover police arrested Otieno for an unknown reason, he allegedly engaged supporters outside the county administration.

According to cops, the aspiring politician, who is a fervent fan of both former president Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga, was charged with causing unrest.

Tuesday night, police said that Gaucho entered a plea of innocence.

"Earlier today, Calvin Okoth Otieno, alias "Gaucho," was charged with causing a commotion in violation of Section 95 (1)(b) of the criminal code and prosecuted before the Kiambu law courts.

"According to a report from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the suspect entered a plea of innocence and was freed on an Sh20,000 bond or Sh5,000 in cash bail.

Being apprehended on Monday was Gaucho's second capture in a week.

He was taken into custody last Tuesday, May 23, and held at the Muthangari police station overnight before being released without being charged.

Eugene Wamalwa, a former secretary of the defence cabinet, spoke out against last week's detention, calling it government intimidation.

"They detained Gaucho, the ghetto president because he exposed President Ruto's deception of Kenyans. It is true that hustlers are suffering, he stated over the weekend during a gathering of opposition leaders at Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's Yatta farm in Kitui.
