Why Shakhter Soligorsk points deducted and stripped off Belarusian Premier League trophy


According to a report by Reuters, the Football Federation of Belarus (BFF) announced on Thursday that the Belarusian champions Shakhtyor Soligorsk were ultimately convicted of match-fixing and forfeited the title of the Premier League championship they earned the previous season.


The BFF discovered that officials from Shakhtyor Club coordinated match-fixing and gave unlawful monetary rewards to other clubs in the league.


BFF deducted Shakhtyor Soligorsk 50 Points; 30 Points this season and 20 Next season

As a result, the BFF deducted 30 points from Shakhtyor for this season and will remove 20 points for the next season.


Other teams, Energetik-BGU Minsk and Belshina Bobruisk, received point deductions for their participation in match rigging as well.


Energetik-BGU Minsk finished as the runner-up in the previous season, while Belshina Bobruisk finished in last place.


According to the Belarusian state-owned BeITA news agency, Bate Borisov will be taking the position of Shakhtyor in the qualification for the Champions League the next season.


The football season in Belarus extends from March all the way until November.
