Recognizing Inventors with Centurion+ Utility Patents as of October 10, 2023

Welcome to the 10th of October 2023: Our goal is to celebrate the pioneering recognizing inventors who have reached noteworthy milestones in their fields this week.

John Cronin

Mr. Cronin is Chairman and CEO of ipCapital Group, Inc., an intellectual property consulting firm. Mr. Cronin founded ipCG in 1998.

Before forming ipCG, Mr. Cronin spent over 17 years at IBM and became its top inventor with over 100 patents and 150 Patent publications. He created and ran the IBM Patent Factory, which was essential in helping IBM become number one in US patents and led the team that contributed to the startup and success of IBM’s licensing program.

Mr. Cronin is also the Chair of the Board of Directors of AdrenalineIP, a Board member of IX-Innovations,  and is the Founder of HarvestWeb

Patent №:11779423 (October 10, 2023) – Real-time adjustment of haptic feedback in surgical robots.

John introduces a groundbreaking concept where haptic feedback from a robotic surgical tool is dynamically adjusted based on the accuracy of pre-operative surgical navigational plans. By comparing pre-operative and intra-operative images, Cronin’s invention allows for real-time modifications to haptic responses and updates to tolerances and surgical navigation plans. This technology holds tremendous potential in enhancing precision and efficiency in surgical procedures.

Norman K Bucknor

Staff Researcher at General Motors.

Patent №:11780421 (October 10, 2023) – Motor and torque converter clutch control strategy for electric drive unit having motor-driven torque converter.

This patent presents a method for controlling an electric drive unit (EDU) that features a motor-driven torque converter. The strategy optimizes the motor’s speed to minimize energy losses while achieving the requested output torque. By selectively enabling torque multiplication, the system enhances performance, improving overall efficiency and driving experience.

Laurent Cariou

Principal Engineer at Intel Corporation.

Patent №:11785432 (October 10, 2023) –Apparatus, system and method of communicating a physical layer (PHY) protocol data unit (PPDU) with version identifier.

A Next Generation Vehicular (NGV) wireless communication station generates an NGV Physical Layer (PHY) Protocol Data Unit (PPDU) containing various components and transmits it over an NGV channel, while also utilizing a memory to store processed information.

Gabi Sarkis

Systems Engineer at Qualcomm.

Patent №:11784749 (October 10, 2023) – Polar coding Reed-Muller node optimization using Fast Hadamard Transform.

This patent describes an apparatus that receives polar-encoded transmissions incorporating intermediate nodes associated with frozen leaf nodes and information leaf nodes. By utilizing a Fast Hadamard Transform (FHT), the apparatus generates a set of values and selects paths associated with the intermediate nodes for decoding. The invention introduces a novel approach to enhance the efficiency of decoding using polar codes.

Huilin Xu

Huilin Xu received a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Florida, Gainesville.

He has been with Qualcomm, San Diego, CA, USA, since November 2010.

Huilin worked on commercial LTE modem design until 2016 and then satellite receiver design until 2017. He has focused on acquisition, tracking loops, channel parameter estimation, demodulation, receiver front-end design, and communications in high-speed scenarios.

Since 2018, he has been attending 3GPP meetings with the RAN1 Group.

Patent №:11785644 (October 10, 2023) – Random access channel transmissions using resources associated with synchronization signal blocks.

Patent №:11785621 (October 10, 2023) – Physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) monitoring for reduced capability user equipment (UE). This invention addresses the challenges faced by UE devices with reduced capabilities in monitoring and decoding PDCCH signals. This solution optimizes the use of available resources, enhancing the reliability of wireless communication for these devices.

Patent №:11785643 (October 10, 2023) – Physical random access channel procedure. It focuses on different aspects of wireless communication, especially related to antenna switching. This patent reveals Xu’s ability to develop novel ways for user equipment (UE) to receive and transmit data efficiently, improving overall communication performance.

Paul Thomas Weisman

Paul Weisman has been working as a Three-dimensional Nonwoven Materials and Methods of Manufacturing at Procter & Gamble for 12 years. Procter & Gamble is part of the Chemicals & Related Products industry, and located in Ohio, United States.

Patent №:11781095 (October 10, 2023) – Active agent-containing articles.

Weisman’s work in this area focuses on creating consumable, single-use, water-insoluble items that contain active agents, auxiliary ingredients, and are used in a range of applications such as dryer-added articles, washing machine-added articles, and hair care articles.
