Where did your inspiration to become an inventor come from?

During my time in college, I became deeply immersed in the world of technology and products. I not only pursued freelancing but also took the leap to start my own company. This period provided me with invaluable exposure to Innovation, as I encountered some truly groundbreaking products in the market. Witnessing the impact of these products from established companies served as a catalyst for my own aspirations as an inventor.

Being immersed in the world of technology and entrepreneurship during my college years had a profound impact on me, particularly as a young individual in my early twenties. It opened my eyes to the potential for groundbreaking technologies to address fundamental issues that not only affected me, but also those in my immediate surroundings.

I distinctly recall the deliberate efforts I made to train my mind in the art of innovation-driven problem-solving. I cultivated a mindset that constantly sought uniqueness, delved into non-obvious factors, and prioritized novelty while tackling complex technological challenges.

This exposure ignited a fire within me to seek out innovative solutions for the basic problems I encountered daily, as well as those faced by the people around me. It spurred me to think beyond conventional boundaries and consider novel approaches to longstanding challenges. The experiences and insights gained during this time served as a powerful motivator, propelling me to embark on a journey of invention and problem-solving with a fervor and determination that continues to drive me today.

What does your typical day look like, and how do you make it productive?

In the current phase of my career, I find myself wearing multiple hats, but let me delve into the aspect of “Parminder as a Hardcore Problem Solver”. I’ve honed a continuous, round-the-clock practice of contemplating impactful problems that persist and could potentially be addressed through technology. When a particularly promising problem captures my attention, my first instinct is to envision the future state – what the world would look like with a solution in place, and how it would impact the global ecosystem. It’s when I envision this transformed future with a smile that the problem earns a spot on my whiteboard for further exploration.

Throughout a typical day, I devote my focus to a singular problem, immersing myself in a process of relentless brainstorming to refine the solution. This iterative cycle persists until my mind synthesizes a genuinely novel approach. Additionally, on a weekly basis, I allocate 30 minutes to the task of reassessing and enhancing my roadmap, ensuring that I’m effectively prioritizing and strategizing to conquer these challenges. This deliberate and structured approach to problem-solving has become a cornerstone of my daily routine, driving productivity, and ensuring that I make meaningful strides towards innovative solutions.

What’s one trend that excites you?

I’m genuinely thrilled about the trend in space travel. The idea of potentially planning vacations beyond our own planet is incredibly exhilarating—it gives me literal goosebumps. Given the opportunity, I’m eager to delve deep into this domain, to absorb and understand its intricacies, and ultimately, to contribute to solving real-time challenges within this field. I’m enthusiastic about bringing my innovative ideas to life in the realm of space exploration.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

I would advise my younger self to embrace failure as a crucial part of the journey. Understand that every setback is an opportunity to learn, grow, and refine your inventions. Stay curious and never stop exploring new technologies and approaches. Collaborate with diverse minds, as different perspectives often lead to breakthroughs. Lastly, trust in your own creativity and vision, even when faced with doubt or skepticism. Believe in the value of your inventions and persist in bringing them to fruition.

Tell us something true that almost no one agrees with you on.

I firmly believe that innovation is not solely tied to the number of years of experience or the depth of technical knowledge one possesses. While these attributes certainly enhance the innovation journey, they should be viewed as prerequisites rather than absolute determinants. I embarked on my innovation journey with just four days of professional experience after college, armed with minimal technical expertise and virtually no soft skills. Many were skeptical of this approach.

In my honest opinion, it holds true that anyone, regardless of their background, can navigate the realm of innovation. The key lies in the ability to persevere through challenges and maintain a relentless work ethic, even in the face of failures. This perspective, while not widely shared, has been a cornerstone of my own innovation journey.

As an inventor, what is the one thing you repeatedly do and recommend everyone else do?

As an inventor, one practice I consistently follow and highly recommend to others is to maintain a relentless curiosity. It’s essential to nurture an insatiable desire to learn, explore, and question the world around you. This curiosity drives innovation by pushing you to discover new possibilities, challenge existing norms, and seek out unconventional solutions to problems.

Embrace a habit of continuous learning, stay open to diverse perspectives, and actively seek out new experiences. Engaging in this lifelong quest for knowledge not only fuels your own creativity but also positions you to make groundbreaking contributions in your field. Curiosity is the spark that ignites the flames of innovation, and by cultivating it, you can unlock a world of potential and drive progress in ways you never thought possible.

What is the one book that you recommend that our community should read and why?

I recommend The Innovator’s Dilemma by Clayton Christensen. This seminal work delves deep into the challenges that innovators and inventors face, particularly in established industries. Christensen’s exploration of disruptive innovation sheds light on how groundbreaking ideas often face resistance within existing systems.

By dissecting case studies and providing valuable insights, this book prompts inventors to rethink their approach to innovation. It encourages a strategic perspective that embraces risk and challenges conventional thinking. The Innovator’s Dilemma is not only a thought-provoking read but also a valuable guide for inventors navigating the complex landscape of innovation. It offers a fresh perspective on how to bring transformative ideas to fruition and make a lasting impact in the world.

What is your favorite quote?

One of my cherished quotes is “Keep Innovating!! Keep Rocking!!“. This mantra resonates with me deeply. It’s not just a saying, but a philosophy that I’ve woven into every aspect of my professional life. Whether it’s in my sessions, on my podcast, or in my LinkedIn posts, I make it a point to share this message.

I’ve always believed in celebrating every innovation, no matter how small. It’s crucial for my brain to recognize and appreciate even incremental progress. To ensure this, I’ve incorporated this quote into my daily mindset. Whenever there’s a small win, I mentally recite this mantra, and it has proven to be incredibly effective. It keeps me motivated and reinforces the importance of consistent progress and innovation. This practice has been instrumental in my journey as an inventor, helping me stay driven and focused on creating meaningful advancements.
