Welcome to the 29th of August 2023: Our goal is to celebrate the pioneering inventor recognitions who have reached noteworthy milestones in their fields this week.

Patrick Soon-Shiong

Dr. Shiong is a South African-American transplant surgeon, billionaire businessman, bioscientist, and media proprietor.

He is the inventor of the drug Abraxane, which became known for its efficacy against lung, breast, and pancreatic cancer.

Soon-Shiong is the founder of NantWorks, a network of healthcare, biotech, and artificial intelligence startups; an adjunct professor of surgery and executive director of the Wireless Health Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles; and a visiting professor at Imperial College London and Dartmouth College.

Master of Science, University of British Columbia; Bachelor of Arts/Science, University of Witwatersrand; Medical Doctor, University of Witwatersrand

Patent №:11741681 (August 29, 2023) – Interaction analysis systems and methods.

An engine scans media to create interactive points like buttons for transactions or searches. Snap a photo of the media with your phone, and you’re instantly connected to these points. It’s interactive media made easy!

Makoto Sasaki

Patent №:11741665 (August 29, 2023) – Image processing apparatus and non-transitory computer-readable medium storing image processing program.

Imagine a device equipped with a special processor. This processor scans through an image and identifies important objects in the foreground. It then outlines these objects with boundaries to make them stand out. When you, the user, perform a single tap or click, the device understands this as a selection command. It then zooms in on the object or area you’ve selected, isolating it from the rest of the image for closer inspection or editing.

Daniel Joseph White

General Manager – Electrification Small Agriculture.

Mr. White is a tech and innovation enthusiast with a diverse background in business and manufacturing. His career is marked by numerous patents and a focus on customer-centric solutions.

Daniel has a passion for growing start-ups, developing disruptive technologies and business models, collaborating and building highly experienced teams, and focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace.

Patent №:11737587 (August 29, 2023) – Wall hanging system.

The wall panel system features two differently designed panels, each with hook portions. These panels are designed to interlock, forming a complete wall assembly.

Christian Volf Olgaard

CTO at Litepoint Corp.

Mr. Olgaard is an expert in Wireless Systems with a focus on innovative testing methods. He leads a tech group developing new testing technologies, many of which are patented.

He spent 2.5 years in Shanghai to establish LitePoint’s first Asian office. Before LitePoint, he worked at National Semiconductor on various wireless systems. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and has numerous patents in wireless technology.

Specialties: Wireless Systems, Chip Design, Customer-Centric Solutions.

Patent №:11742970 (August 29, 2023) – Correcting error vector magnitude measurements.

The example test system includes memory that stores both executable instructions and a mapping function. This function helps correct errors in data symbols affected by radio frequency noise. The system includes a decoder that receives signals from a device being tested. It uses the mapping function to correct any errors in the received data.

David R Lancia, Jr

VP, Discovery Technologies at Arclight Therapeutics.

Patent №:11739071 (August 29, 2023) –Quinazolinones and azaquinazolinones as ubiquitin-specific protease 7 inhibitors.

The invention involves inhibitors of USP7, useful for treating a wide range of conditions like cancers, neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases, as well as bacterial and viral infections. The inhibitors have a specific chemical formula, with variables described in the disclosure.

Young Jo Ko

Dr. Young-Jo Ko is currently the Director of the 6G Wireless Transmission Research Section in the Future Mobile Communication Research Division at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) and serves as Chairman of the Technology Committee of the 5G Forum in Korea.

He received BS, MS and Ph. D. degrees in Physics from KAIST in 1992, 1994, and 1998, respectively. He joined ETRI in March 1998 and has been working on mobile communications.

Young has also actively participated in the 3GPP standardization of LTE/LTE-Advanced. His current research interests include 5G New Radio and B5G/6G technologies, particularly focusing on the physical layer aspects of radio access.

Patent №:11743905 (August 29, 2023) – Method and apparatus for transmission and reception in multi-carrier wireless communication systems.

In wireless systems, your device uses special channels to know what data to receive. Sometimes, it gets similar signals from different places. A built-in feature helps the device choose the right signal, ensuring you get the correct data.
