Inventor Recognitions with Centurion Plus Utility Patents as of August 8, 2023

Welcome to the 8th of August 2023: Our goal is to celebrate the pioneering inventor recognitions who have reached noteworthy milestones in their fields this week.

Hui-Ling Lou

Fellow at NXP Semiconductors.

Before NXP, she was a Senior Engineering Director at Marvell Semiconductor in Santa Clara, CA, responsible for the physical layer (PHY) standards, systems, and architecture design and development for next-generation wireless technologies.

She also formed and led teams responsible for the PHY standards and systems design for Marvell’s first IEEE 802.11n MIMO, Bluetooth and digital FM products.

Prior to Marvell, Dr. Lou was at Bell Laboratories Research in Murray Hill, New Jersey where she developed PHY and cross-layer technologies for cellular and digital audio broadcasting systems.

She has also done chip design for ADSL systems at Amati Communications. Dr. Lou completed her MSEE and Ph.D. degrees at Stanford University in 1988 and 1992, respectively. She is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting.

Her interest is in applied systems research using rigorous theoretical grounding to innovate and design cutting-edge digital communication systems

Patent №:11723113 (August 8, 2023) – Apparatus and method for enabling and disabling links in multi-link communication systems.

This is about a method and device for a multi-link communication system. In one case, the method involves a device receiving information that changes a link’s status from enabled to disabled. Then, the device adjusts certain parameters for that link’s operations.

David C Yates

Electromechanical Engineer at Kaleidoscope Innovation and Product Design.

Mr. Yates is an electrical engineer with extensive experience in therapeutic medical device design and development, analog and power circuit design, intellectual property creation and strategy, and professional audio design.

Patent №:11717285 (August 8, 2023) – Surgical cutting and fastening instrument having RF electrodes.

A surgical cutting and fastening instrument. The instrument comprises a handle and an end effector connected to the handle. The end effector comprises upper and lower opposing jaw members, wherein the upper jaw member comprises a plurality of co-linear, separately actuatable, RF electrodes.

Yoshiharu Hirakata

Patent №:11723253 (August 8, 2023) – Light-emitting device including flexible printed circuit.

an example of a light-emitting device of one embodiment of the present invention.

This is about a light-emitting or display device that’s designed to be less prone to breaking. It has a layer with light elements and a substrate over it. The substrate, which can transmit light and has a higher refractive index than air, is bent toward the layer. Alternatively, the substrate can cover the top and side of the layer. In both cases, the layer has light-emitting elements that shine light toward the substrate.

Erik Dahlman

Mr. Dahlman is currently a Senior Expert in Radio Access Technologies with Ericsson Research.

He has been deeply involved in the development of all 3GPP wireless access technologies, from the early 3G technologies WCDMA(HSPA), via 4G LTE, and most recently the 5G NR technology. He has co-authored the books 3G Evolution—HSPA and LTE for Mobile Broadband, 4G—LTE and LTE-Advanced for mobile broadband, 4G—LTE-Advanced Pro and The Road to 5G and, most recently, 5G NR—The Next Generation Wireless Access Technology.

His current work is primarily focusing on the evolution of 5G as well as technologies applicable to the future beyond 5G wireless access.

Mr. Dahlman received the Major Technical Award in 2009, an award handed out by the Swedish Government, for his contributions to the technical and commercial success of the 3G HSPA radio-access technology.

In 2010, he was part of the Ericsson team receiving the LTE Award for “Best Contribution to LTE Standards,” handed out at the LTE World Summit. In 2014, he was nominated for the European Inventor Award, the most prestigious inventor award in Europe, for contributions to the development of 4G LTE.

Patent №:11722281 (August 8, 2023) – PUCCH structure for mixed numerology.

Patent №:11722260 (August 8, 2023) – HARQ codebook acknowledgement signalling for radio access networks.

Catalina Mihaela Mladin

Catalina Mladin is a Member of the Technical Staff at InterDigital Communications Inc., currently working on IoT development with Convida Wireless.

Her recent activities include direct participation in standardization activities in 3GPP-SA and oneM2M. Previously, she published several wireless and IoT research papers and has more than 100 pending/approved Patent applications.

Patent №:11722581 (August 8, 2023) – Mechanisms for an intelligent service layer request abstraction service.

This is about making service operations easier. It automates handling multi-step tasks, like grouping steps together. A Request Abstraction Service (RAS) is used to automatically do these tasks. The system also integrates different user interfaces as services managed by the system.

Inder Raj S Makin

Trained medical professional (MD) with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering with > 20 years of experience in healthcare technologies. Area of expertise in medical education, academic research, medical devices, biophysical concepts of energy-tissue interaction using various energy modalities for therapies and imaging, such as ultrasound, radio-frequency (RF), lasers, magnetic resonance (MR), and computer tomography (CT).

Specialties: Technology assessment, technology strategy, device development, ultrasound and other energy-based applications, clinical program development, regulatory processes

Patent №: 11717707 (August 8, 2023) – System and method for noninvasive skin tightening.

This method and system provide noninvasive face lifts and tissue tightening. It involves imaging and using ultrasound energy to treat a specific area, monitoring the process for effectiveness and feedback.

Tarkesh Pande

Mr. Pande received B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Purdue University, in 1999, 2003, and 2006, respectively.

Since 2007, he has been with the EP R&D Center at Texas Instruments, Inc., Dallas, TX, USA.

His research interests are in wireless and wireline communications, intelligent transportation systems and sensor-based signal processing. Tarkesh is a member of Eta Kappa Nu.

Patent №:11722174 (August 8, 2023) – Long preamble and duty cycle-based coexistence mechanism for power line communication (PLC) networks.

This is about helping different technologies work together in a Power Line Communication (PLC) network. If a device can’t use the channel, it sends a long signal asking to use it later. After that, it can send its actual data. There’s also a defined time when all devices in the network pause before sending data again. The long signal and this pause time can be used together.
