Southampton Airport

Southampton Airport (IATA Name: SOU) is traced to Southampton in Hampshire in the United Kingdom and owned by AGS Airports Limited. This international airport operates standard scheduled services to and from Southampton while serving about 30 destinations.

Ferrovial (through Faero UK Limited) and AGS Ventures Airports Limited (which is managed by Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund) are the joint owners of Southampton Airport. SOU was earlier owned and controlled by Heathrow Airport Holdings.

Southampton Airport serves Hampshire, Southampton, Portsmouth, New Forest, Salisbury, and Winchester.

Along with an asphalt runway, Southampton Airport contains one terminal with 12 stands.

History
Southampton Airport was developed when the Air Ministry approved a plan to establish a Civil Air Transport System for serving domestic and international routes in the year 1918.

Then, in the year 1932, Southampton Corporation bought over Atlantic Park and rechristened it to Southampton Municipal Airport.

The 1960s saw the transfer of ownership of Southampton Airport from Southampton Corporation to Mr J N Somer, who owned an airfield in Hertfordshire. Thereafter, SOU was revamped to include a 1723-meter concrete runway for accommodating a larger number of passengers.

Later, in the year 1984, Airports UK Limited, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of BAA, was given the contract for refurbishing Southampton Airport and improving its services.

Then, in the year 1988, Mr Somers sold the airport site to a team led by Peter de Savary.

During the 1990s, BAA bought the site and announced a £27 million plan for the airport redevelopment.

Hereafter, Southampton Airport was renamed as Southampton International Airport in the year 1994. HRH Prince

Andrew, The Duke of York, unveiled the new airport passenger terminal in the same year.

Thereon, AGS Airports Limited bought Southampton Airport in the year 2014.
