Vietnamese Swimmer Secures Third Spot at 2024 Olympics

Hoang completed the men’s 800 m freestyle event in a remarkable time of 7 minutes and 51.44 seconds, surpassing the Olympic standard time by a margin of 0.21 seconds.

The 23-year-old swimmer is the third Vietnamese athlete to have successfully qualified for the 2024 Olympics.

Shooter Trinh Thu Vinh has secured a spot in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. She achieved this feat by placing fifth in the women’s 10m air pistol event at the 2023 ISSF World Shooting Championships in August. The Olympic Games are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11 next year. In addition, female cyclist Nguyen Thi That has also qualified for the Games. She earned her spot by winning the gold medal at the 2023 Asian Road and Para Cycling Championships in June.

Hoang, born in 2000, has established himself as one of the country’s most promising swimmers in recent years.

He is a holder of national and Southeast Asian records in the 800m and 1,500m freestyle events.

He achieved remarkable success in various sporting events, including winning a coveted gold medal at the prestigious 2018 Youth Olympics. In addition, he has also earned a distinguished silver and bronze medal at the highly competitive 2018 Asian Games. Furthermore, he has showcased unparalleled talent and skill by securing an astounding 11 Gold Medals at the esteemed Southeast Asian Games.

In the men’s 800m freestyle event on Thursday, Kim Woo Min from South Korea secured the gold medal with a remarkable time of seven minutes and 46.03 seconds. This achievement surpasses the previous Asian Games record set by China’s Sun Yang by 2.33 seconds.

Chinese swimmer Fei Liwei secured the silver medal with an impressive time of seven minutes and 49.90 seconds.

Vietnam has assembled a delegation consisting of 504 participants and coaches, including 320 athletes, to compete in the prestigious 19th Asian Games. This sporting event encompasses a grand total of 40 different sports and 481 events. The Vietnamese delegation has set their sights on achieving a remarkable accomplishment, aiming to secure at least two gold medals by the conclusion of the tournament on October 8th.

As of 2:30 pm, the country is currently ranked 15th with a tally of one gold medal, two silver medals, and 11 bronze medals.

The current medal standings at the Games show China in first place with an impressive tally of 95 gold medals, 55 silvers, and 27 bronzes. South Korea follows closely behind with 24 gold medals, 24 silvers, and 41 bronzes, while Japan holds the third position with 20 gold medals, 31 silvers, and 32 bronzes.
