“Japanese to Experience A Taste of Vietnam With ‘Pho’ Dish”

The ‘Vietnam Pho Festival 2023,’ commemorating the seventh anniversary of its inception, will be held in Tokyo, Japan on December 12. The event is scheduled to take place on October 7 and 8.

The festival is a tangible commemoration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan.

During a festival introduction ceremony at the headquarters of Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Thursday, the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City unveiled the creation of the association’s Tuoi Tre newspaper branch.

The establishment is anticipated to enhance and strengthen the Vietnam-Japan relationship.

At the event, Editor-in-Chief Le The Chu of Tuoi Tre expressed that the relationship between Vietnam and Japan has experienced significant growth.

The establishment of this branch is intended to solidify bilateral relations and strengthen efforts to foster connections between Vietnamese and Japanese individuals.

Masuo Ono, the Consul General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City, expressed his congratulations to Tuoi Tre on the inauguration of the branch of the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association.

He described Tuoi Tre as an esteemed newspaper that extensively explores the Vietnam-Japan partnership, encompassing economic, cultural, and diplomatic dimensions.

“The bilateral ties between the two nations are flourishing, and 2022 signifies the momentous milestone of their 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The consul general of Japan emphasized the crucial role that young individuals will play in fostering the future growth and development of this extraordinary relationship.”

“I strongly believe that the news agency will continue to play a vital role in promoting mutual understanding among young people and further strengthening this valuable friendship,” he emphasized.

Speaking about the ‘Vietnam Phở Festival,’ he expressed that pho is a beloved dish in Japan, fueling anticipation among the Japanese community for their participation in the upcoming Vietnamese cuisine festival.

The festival will serve as a platform for cultural exchange between Vietnamese and Japanese individuals through the shared appreciation of traditional dish, pho.

Pho is a renowned Vietnamese delicacy consisting of fragrant rice noodles served in a flavorful broth with various meat options.

Tran Xuan Toan, deputy editor-in-chief of Tuoi Tre, reports that approximately 480,000 Vietnamese individuals currently reside in Japan.

The festival will be held at Yoyogi Park – Keyaki Namiki and aims to showcase Vietnamese cuisine, with a particular focus on the beloved dish of pho. Its purpose is to introduce this traditional dish to a global audience and provide a nostalgic taste of home for Vietnamese living abroad.

Many renowned chefs and winners of the prestigious ‘Hoa Hoi Vang’ (Golden Star Anise) award, Nguyen Tien Hai, Nguyen Tu Tin, and Pham Quang Duy, are scheduled to attend the upcoming ‘Vietnam Phở Festival 2023.’ The festival is jointly organized by Tuoi Tre and Saigontourist Group.

The ‘Hoa Hoi Vang’ award is presented annually during the ‘Day of Pho’ ceremony to recognize pho chefs from all over Vietnam.

The participating restaurants that you can find at the event include Pho Dau, Pho Hai Thien, Hotel Majestic Saigon, Pho Phu Gia, Pho’S, Sen SASCO, Pho Ta, Binh Tay Food, Pho VGCC, and Pho Thin Bo Ho, among various others.

The event has garnered support from esteemed organizations, including the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City, and Japanese stakeholders.

The festival will be organized in partnership with Vietnam Airlines, Suntory Beverage & Food, Southern Airports Services Joint Stock Company (SASCO), Dai-ichi Life, and ALSOK.

Le Nguyen Bao Ngoc, the reigning Miss Intercontinental 2022, has been selected as the ambassador for this year’s festival.
